Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros is expected to miss “about a month” with a left shoulder injury, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Per, Meszaros suffered the injury in the second period of last night’s 2-1 win over the Rangers.

The loss of Meszaros is a considerable one for the Flyers. The 27-year-0ld is a key member of Philadelphia’s defensive corps, playing around 20 minutes a night in a two-way role.

Holmgren says the Flyers will call up defenseman Andreas Lilja from AHL Adirondack to fill the vacancy on the blue line. Philadelphia’s next game is Saturday in Florida.

The Meszaros injury news comes just one day after Holmgren announced forward Scott Hartnell would miss 4-8 weeks with a broken foot.

Tough loss for us. Mez is my favorite D-man and hope he gets better quick.

    • ibieiniid - Jan 25, 2013 at 2:51 PM

i do wish he’d stop those random-ass runs to the net from behind his own goal line that he never scores on though.

        True that.

Mez is best when firing bombs from the blue line on the PP – he seems to get assists – and the occasional goal – when he does that.

    cue PK Subban rumors

    • f2maestro - Jan 25, 2013 at 2:57 PM

PK Subban and the Flyers… It’s almost as though it’s destined.

Personally I’d love to see Torts and PK ‘mesh’ more than PK/Lavi; But I can dream!

      • jaredphi - Jan 25, 2013 at 2:59 PM

Ugh, I really hope not. I don’t want PK to be a Flyer.

Any and all deals begin with Sean Couturier

      • jaredphi - Jan 25, 2013 at 4:19 PM

        Oh hell no!

No way Philly should send Coots anywhere.

      • misterchainbluelightning - Jan 25, 2013 at 4:25 PM

LOL, well then you don’t have to worry about PK becoming a Flyer.

Well, it sure looks like the Flyers weren’t ready for this season to begin. 2-5? And going nowhere fast. Giroux looks bad. He has no umph. You need a lot of umph to play this game. And he’s their Captain? Oh no. No umph.
