PHT Extra: Should the Habs trade PK Subban?

Jan 24, 2013, 8:50 PM EDT

The Montreal Canadiens are having trouble negotiating a contract with their star defenseman, PK Subban.

In fact, the sides are so far apart there’s talk Habs GM Marc Bergevin may have to trade the talented 23-year-old.

Today on PHT Extra, Kay Adams asked Mike and I if that would be such a great idea.

And if it was, where might Subban end up?

DROP HIM. This is the type of maggot that can kill a team from the inside. The biggest competitive advantage you can give yourself is PK on the opposing team. What an arrogant a-hole. 100 bucks says he ends up in Philly, with the rest of them.

      Must be a Penguins fan.

Another nonsense post by the retard who know nothing about hockey. You do realize that Subban led his team in ice time and was the best D they had on the ice? But then again I don’t expect much from a bandwagon fanboy who praises a team that stars a Cry baby, a diver, the dirtiest player in hockey and a Russian man child who can’t control himself with his never ending carousel of stupid penalties.

        Pot meet Kettle!

      • miketoasty - Jan 25, 2013 at 10:30 AM

And another post by a Flyers fan bashing the Pens when they are not even being talked about. Typical Flyers fan.

  2. bcisleman - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:00 PM

Was thinking Subban would not be moved, but who knows? He is a big FOJT and the Isles certainly could use an elite talent at RD. I know Nino’s agent said he wanted to be traded but I doubt the Isles would move him. Perhaps Mayfield and the first rounder? Don’t know.

  3. sergeikremlin - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:09 PM

No, the Habs should not trade P.K. Subban. He is a dynamic, explosive young player who can play and contribute in all situations. You simply do not find defenseman like this easily and they will not replace him easily if he is moved. He is a fan favourite and a big piece of their franchise for years to come. The Habs’ camp and P.K.’s camp need to meet in the middle and get this thing done.

    • hockeywithdrawal - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:10 PM

And if you truly believe that, I’ve got a Scott Gomez that I think you’ll be interested in!

  4. broadstbully33 - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:16 PM

Lol pens fan always have Philly on their mind. It’s kind of pathetic that every article all you do is is talk trash and add zero knowledge to the comments section. Do your parents know you’re still on the Internet?

    • 19to77 - Jan 25, 2013 at 4:39 AM

Let’s be honest, Philly and Detroit are so brutally thin on D right now that it’s completely fair to drop basically any trade rumours for D-men. I get the Pens bias thing, I do, but when you’re THAT desperate, it really is only fair to start revving up the rumour engine.

    • upyoursnfu - Jan 25, 2013 at 9:51 AM

How almost everyone of YOUR comments has something about the Penguins in it? Think you are maybe just a little bit obsessive?

  5. broadstbully33 - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:18 PM

Not that pens fans have any knowledge about the game. How could they, they just started watching hockey.

    • sfbookreviews - Jan 25, 2013 at 1:14 AM

I got into hockey about three years after the last time Philly won the Cup. So obviously, that was a loooooooooong time ago.

It’s rather pathetic that you take the ravings of a few fans and use that to paint all fans the same color. I don’t label all Flyer fans as murderers just because your team is based in Pennsylvania’s murder capital.

Thank god that although I was born just outside of Philly, my family moved to the saner side of the state when I was too young to know how close I came to nearly an entire life without a Stanley Cup Championship.

  6. aschwartz2011 - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:26 PM

If I am Stevie Y I am on the phone trying to figure out how to bring him to Tampa. Not sure we have the pieces but they really need top end D help. Hedman is solid but guys like Brewer and Salo are just too slow to compete. I think the Islanders had 6 breakaways due to bad defense.

  7. broadstbully33 - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:30 PM

Wouldn’t mind seeing him on Philly, it would depend on pieces goin the other way and I’m not sure Read would be enough

    • hockeywithdrawal - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:36 PM

      I rest my case.

    • valoisvipers - Jan 25, 2013 at 9:23 AM

Read not enough for PK and you call yourself a Flyer fan. I guess you don’t watch many games.Firstly keep Read and leave PK and his baggage just where he is. He is not made of Flyer cloth.

      • darksidecowboy - Jan 25, 2013 at 3:37 PM

would take Read and Couturier to make that deal

  8. broadstreetbeatdown - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:41 PM

What is this hockey thing you speak of? Signed a Penguins fanboy.

  9. uscthom78 - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:50 PM

They are trying to franclocizing the franchising so he is going to be traded.

  10. howintensive - Jan 24, 2013 at 9:51 PM

The Red Wings would love him. They have cap space and need Defense.

    • 19to77 - Jan 25, 2013 at 4:45 AM

But what about their sense of class? Obviously, PK Subban and hockey class can’t exist on the same squad.

  11. csilojohnson - Jan 24, 2013 at 10:04 PM

No, they can keep his dumb ass

  12. pooinyourface - Jan 24, 2013 at 10:31 PM

good one hockeywithdrawal hahaha this dummy flyers fan says you know nothing about hockey then goes on supporting his garbage team and crappy coach who have nt made it out of the second round in 20 years. Yea guy u know everything! Eff the penguins too

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Jan 24, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Look guys, the retarded fanboy is complimenting himself again. The epitome of mentally challenged is when you start talking about the Flyers on a Habs thread. What a homer.

  13. chrisk61 - Jan 24, 2013 at 11:02 PM

how about briere for subban ? french canada might like briere. may have to add a younger, secondary piece. maybe briere + wellwood for subban.

actually flyers have made it out of 2nd rd in 20 years. made it to finals in 2010, alzheimer’s boy. and frankly advancing on a consistent basis ain’t bad…

  14. broadstbully33 - Jan 24, 2013 at 11:23 PM

I rest my case. It’s stupid posts like that that prove the stupidity of pens fans. I can’t wait till bankruptcy comes knocking again on the doorstep pity. You’re an embaresment to all pens fans. Well at least the two who existed before 2005.

  15. icelovinbrotha215 - Jan 25, 2013 at 12:28 AM

Brotha from another motha. P.K. would look good in Orange ‘n Black.

    • valoisvipers - Jan 25, 2013 at 9:30 AM

Make no mistake PK is not Simmonds.Simmonds is a sound team player, plays hard and has a great attitude non of which can be said about PK. So leave PK and his troubles to the Habs.

      • Jim Jean - Jan 25, 2013 at 6:44 PM

Ok for the team play and attitude, but if you think PK Subban doesn’t play hard, then you have no clue why he is so hated around the Eastern Conference.

      • icelovinbrotha215 - Jan 25, 2013 at 7:23 PM

And how do you know? P.K. and Simmonds both play the same game. Trust me, as an Nigerian American who officiates and plays ice hockey, it’s I know how easy it is to be ‘misunderstood’ attitude-wise. I’m not sure why any Flyers’ fan wouldn’t want P.K. Have you seen our blue line? You think Lilja is the answer? C’mon man.

  16. broadstbully33 - Jan 25, 2013 at 10:46 AM

Why don’t you read the very first comment… Dumbass.

  17. broadstbully33 - Jan 25, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Lol toasty has no response so he basically copies my post and changes it to pens lol loser

  18. watermelon1 - Jan 25, 2013 at 12:04 PM

The Caps need defense… I don’t care if they give up both Mike Green and John Carlson to do it. Get this guy! Might take some crazy 3 team trade like they do in the NBA, if those are even allowed in the NHL? But Caps… you need defense. Once you get that, Ovechkin can start leaking out for some breakaways. Others can join him, and be more focused in the offensive zone instead of just basically “waiting for the Caps to lose the puck so they can skate back on defense.”

  19. vipod4ever - Jan 25, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Speaking with a high school buddy of mine within the habs org (i’m dead serious) talk is PK is heading west, likely Calgary or Edmonton ( they want a bidding war) and a high draft pick plus a prospect comes back.

    • Jim Jean - Jan 25, 2013 at 6:46 PM

…A la Jordan Eberle or RNH… I make that trade in a heartbeat.
