Any good vibes the Toronto Maple Leafs may have been building with their fans early this season received a quick curve ball.

According to a number of tweets, a group of Leafs fans at the Air Canada Centre began chants of “Let’s Go Blue Jays” during a 7-4 loss to the New York Islanders.

The Leafs, 5-2 winners of Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night, jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Islanders, but gave up two goals in the second period and four more in the third.

Matt Moulson and Michael Grabner each scored twice. Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens was ventilated for five goals on 25 shots before being relieved in the third period by James Reimer.

The Leafs had given up only five goals in their first three games of the season, but that same performance couldn’t carry over into a fourth game.

As for the Blue Jays chants, well, it isn’t the first time this has come up in Toronto.

For those Toronto fans curious, the Blue Jays open up the MLB regular season against the Cleveland Indians on April 2 at Rogers Centre.

LMAO, and Pittsburgh lost to this team. Yup, that’s right, just give them the Cup now because according to their fans, Sid and Geno are Gods and this loss is just them throwing the NHL a bone so they don’t make it obvious by going undefeated.

Three games. Three goals. Cryers are really lighting the lamp.

Jesus- not everything is about Penn and Philly. That s*** is getting annoying.

Agreed. We’re supposed to be making fun of the Leafs here. C’mon, guys.

The Leafs are 2w-2l, what’s Philly’s record right now? I’d be more worried about your own team….

Ha! In August they will be chanting “Let’s go Raptors! Let’s go Raptors!”
Typical Toronto sporting fan, giving up at the first sign of ineptitude, but all is forgotten the next year.

This is all too familiar to Leafs fans. Beat the good teams, don’t show up against the ones they should actually beat.

I’ll never forget one year when they had games against the Wings, Habs, and Sens within about a week when those three were tops in the league. They beat them all but managed to mix in an 8-0 loss to Florida.

Let’s be fair here: The Jays should be a really good team this year.

this IS true but i would be beyond embarrassed if we started cheering lets go cardinals! during a blues game…

There’s a difference, though. St. Louis has really good fans. Toronto’s are rather finicky.

Dickey won a Cy Young throwing a goddamn knuckleball after he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, I bet starting in goal for the Leafs would be the easiest thing he’s ever done.

lets just hope those same fans got there in time to enjoy the 2nd intermission.

Maybe a select few season ticket holders should toss a CASE of waffles onto the ice…
