Maybe he’s just not adapting to the new scheme as well as his teammates. There’s a lot more to dividing ice time than just talent.

ballistictrajectory I totally agree with you, yet Oates is giving Ovi over 23 minutes a game and he has just one point in 2 games, both losses to show for it. Should we expect a Walmart Rollback on Ovi’s minutes any time soon?

Maybe Oates isnt a Perreault fan because Oates loves pressure physical style leading to turnovers and scoring opportunities and well Perreault is not a physical guy in any way. But you still need goal scorers to score when this kind of scheme works so i dunno. Well just like the Capitals im confused…

I guess Ovi is wasting all those guys minutes.
Perreault is right in asking for more ice time as last year he got 16 goals and 14 assists playing an average of 12 minutes a game and played in only 64 games. Just maybe more ice time and power play time are justified.
Ovi playing over 23 minutes a game hurts the team

Most coaches set a bar for playing minutes and if you don’t measure up you don’t get the minutes. Maybe some self-reflection would help his cause.

I just looked this up but Perreault, Johansson, Fehr, Hendricks, and Ward are all averaging less than 7 minutes a game. It is worth noting though the Capitals have given up a ton of penalties and only Hendricks can penalty kill. Still, thats surprising since all of them can score and Oates runs more of an offensive scheme. We shall see if it changes tonight.
