Watch Tarasenko beat Howard all alone for first NHL goal

Jan 20, 2013, 12:32 AM EDT

There’s some really impressive top-end talent in this season’s crop of rookies and we’ve seen evidence of that over the course of the NHL’s opening day.

In a night littered with impressive performances, Vladimir Tarasenko‘s first career NHL goal still stands out as one of the top highlights.

Tarasenko accepted a stretch pass and found himself well ahead of his fellow St. Louis Blues players and with a clear path to Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard. He made the most of the opportunity and beat Howard to open up the scoring in what would become a 6-0 victory for St. Louis.

You can watch his goal below:

Tarasenko added a power-play goal just 29 seconds into the second period to give himself a very early lead in the NHL rookie goal scoring race.
