Watch Nash beat Vokoun shorthanded for first Rangers goal

Jan 20, 2013, 10:21 PM EDT

Rick Nash picked up his first assist with the New York Rangers in their season opener on Saturday and netted a rather impressive shorthanded goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Sunday’s contest.

Derek Stepan deserves plenty of credit for intercepting the Penguins’ pass and feeding the puck to Nash. New York fans have to be encouraged by the chemistry they displayed on this play:

Ultimately it proved to be too little, too late for the Rangers on Sunday. The goal was scored with just 5:15 minutes remaining in a Penguins 6-3 victory over the Rangers. Still, it might be a sign of things to come as the Rangers look to regroup after their discouraging start to the shortened season.
