Video: Huberdeau scores first NHL goal in second shift

Jan 19, 2013, 9:40 PM EDT

The Florida Panthers’ Jonathan Huberdeau entered this season as one of the frontrunners to win the Calder Trophy and it didn’t take him long to make an impression.

The 19-year-old rookie was playing in just his second NHL shift when he was fed the puck while parked in front of Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward. Huberdeau shoved the puck between the legs of the 2006 Conn Smythe Trophy winner to score his first goal at 3:37 of the first period.

You can watch it below:

That proved to just be the start for what’s developing into a magical first game for Huberdeau. He’s also assisted on Scottie Upshall and Alex Kovalev’s goals as the Panthers maintain a 5-1 lead over the Hurricanes.
