Todd Bertuzzi out of action with mono

We’ve seen groin pulls and other assorted ailments through training camp, but leave it to Detroit’s Todd Bertuzzi to take the cake.

Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports the rugged forward is out of action with a case of mono. For the record, Bertuzzi is 37 years-old and not a fresh-out-of-college kid. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock says Bertuzzi will miss a “chunk of time” with the sickness. At least he’s being descriptive, right?

With Bertuzzi out and Patrick Eaves not quite ready to play the Wings will roll with Jan Mursak at forward tonight against St. Louis. The Wings fight for the playoffs this season was already set to be tough and being without Bertuzzi for a long stretch will only make it that much harder.

This might not be a bad thing. The Wings have a big wave of young guys in Grand Rapids looking to make the jump.

Really…. then let’s BRING THEM ON… Lord knows we need them after what I saw tonight!

Bert would have made Backes think twice about some of those BLIND runs at Avs forwards.

The red wings are like the Yankees. They were awesome for a long time now everyone is aging and they need to blow up their team and get young again.

Please Carmel – Youngest team in the league Avs at 26… oldest teams…Red Wings at 29.

Only a 3 year difference, and is NOT the issue. .

And a bad case of Douche bag-itus.

Jason9696 — Bertuzzi is actually one of the nicest guys in the league off the ice, and he’s one of the most loyal guys on the ice. Go cry your tears somewhere else. All Bertuzzi did was take out the trash the night he went after Moore. Get over it, already!

Ending someones career is “taking out the trash…”…
