@kitshky: It hasn’t always been a goalie graveyard, you can thank Burke for that phrase. He coined it while GM of Vancouver, and considering the goalies he used at the time (Dan Cloutier as the starter, Kevin Weekes as the goalie of the future), it stuck like it was truth from the bible.

We loved Kirk McLean and Richard Brodeur before that, even had fondness for a few of our not so greats in between, but now the voice of a few fans are just louder than those actually smart enough to realize a bad game doesn’t mean that much.

Hell, Patrick Roy gets pulled for the last time in Montreal and goes on to win the cup with the Avs.

No, but I can say defence. Sloppy positional play and half hearted efforts led to most of the goals, even if the goalies themselves might have done better to stop them. Welcome to the first game back after a short training camp after a 110+ day lockout.

It’s one game. Quick got lit up by the hawks with virtually the same numbers.

Schneider will start against Edmonton and redeem himself. It’s better to have these moments of “collapse” at the beginning of a weird season instead of game 5-7 of the playoffs.

Vancouver’s a different animal! As an example I was at a game out there in 02 when Marcus Naslund and Jarome Iginla were jockying back and forth for the scoring title that year, both were terrific! Well Naslund had gone a few games without scoring and Iginla took the scoring lead, as I was sitting in GM Place I had to listen to a bunch of “hardcore” Canucks fans talk about how Naslund sucks and he was showing it and how they should trade him for Iginla…it was embarrassing!

I wouldn’t get too concerned. It is the first game back with no exhibition games. A lot of teams looked off/sloppy. Jonathan Quick got torched, Lundqvist had 3 hung on him, Holtby allowed 6. There were several lopsided scores. Some teams may need a few games to get into the groove.

It’s more about the fans and media in Vancouver, as much as Toronto has the reputation for being a tough place to play in, quietly Vancouver is the toughest English city in Canada for players to play in. Until the Canucks trade Luongo they need Schneider to play at least okay and last night he did the one thing he couldn’t possibly do. I don’t think the fans will crush him en masse just yet (there will be rumblings though) but if he has another real bad game or two before they trade Luongo then expect to see a massive goalie controversy swell in Vancouver, as tough as Canucks fans were on Luongo, it will flip the opposite way.

Interesting to see so many sceptical about Schneider after one game. There’s always gonna be days like this, especially after the long lockout layoff. He’s rusty, doesn’t mean he’s all of a sudden not talented. He’ll turn it around.

Vancouver fans just hop bandwagons and flip flop week to week just like Montreal fans (with Carey Price).

Both city’s also like to flip flop their entire downtown area when they get liquored up during the playoffs.

I hate the Canucks, but in Schneider’s defense, 2 of the 3 quick goals were essentially point blank shots due to busted defensive coverage. It was pretty funny to see Luongo get a standing ovation when he entered the game by the very same people who booed him out of his pads last season.
