I've never understood why the Canucks are so up on trading Luongo to begin with. Ok, hes folded in the playoffs a couple times... but he did get the Canucks to the Cup a couple years ago, and had put up really solid regular season numbers. Say whatever you want about him, hes as solid in net as a team can hope for.

Now Cory Schneider has also looked really good the last couple years, but he played a career high 33 games last year, about half what you would expect from a starter. Theres no promis hes going to be a super star in net with the starting job. You have any idea how bad it will look if the Canucks trade Luongo and Schneider falls apart, or worse yet imagine Luongo goes off to a team where he wins the cup? The Canucks GM has to be careful about all that... especially if he doesn't get much for the trade.

Ya, keep telling yourselves that but the cap (and their opportunities to trade him) only go downwards the longer they wait.....unless that is if an interested team has their existing goalie(s) play like poop or go down with an injury. Then again if Lou gets injured while Gillis continues his pipe dream they will be totally screwed period..... :)

What's the rush?

Frankly Toronto is a horrible dance partner (they have so few decent young NHLers and legit prospects that they can't part with any and thanks to the Kessel deal they won't trade a 1st rounder for anything) and it's not like they've got anything in particular to offer Luongo so really, they are simply the most talked about option.

But yes, the media posturing is a bit tiresome. Unfortunately both cities have rabid fanbases and a boatload of mediocre sports journalists which means a lot of poor reporting on this whole "saga."

The lady doth protest too much...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a life-long Canucks fan (and Gillis fan, for that matter) but these daily media releases from both sides are getting ridiculous.

Gillis is feeling pressure. Nonis is feeling pressure. Anything they say to the contrary is just posturing.

I wish they'd just cut the theatrics and get a deal done that helps both teams.

It's not like Luongo is saying "I've got to get out of here, I refuse to dress, I refuse to be on this team". Gillis is right. Canucks could play a year or two with both goalies splitting time equally and playing whoever is hot. Doesn't seem to be that big of a problem.

Frankly I would prefer to see the Canucks hold onto both players all year. It's going to be a hectic schedule and with Schneider's first season as the number one guy it just makes sense to have the best fallback option possible.

I don't think there are any teams out there that would make a great offer for Luongo now and completely lose interest by the time the offseason rolls around (on the contrary, teams who are interested now will be able to give themselves the flexibility to make a big deal once the season is over - either through amnesty buyouts or other trades to shore up weaknesses) so there shouldn't be any rush.
