So, he’s good enough to help the team win and make the playoffs, but they rather pay him 3 million bucks this year not to play. And another 3 million bucks over the next 2 years to get out of town. What is it that I don’t understand that you do?

Well Redden did have those point totals since he didn’t play in the NHL last season and Gomez had more PIMs, (14), than points, (11), last season while playing in less than half the games.
Any GM would be foolish to not be cognizant of the fact that they are already receiving very high salaries.

You do realize that he didn’t make their lineup because of his contract, not his skill, right? He could be a very good fit somewhere, for the right price, it just didn’t work out in MTL. And please don’t call them the worst team in the east, i’m no Canadians fan, but i’m smart enough to see that they just had a bad season, plain and simple. Subban didn’t progress, Markov was injured, Camalerri wasn’t producing and got traded, and so on. They will have a bounce back year

The guy can’t even crack the line up of the worse team in the eastern conference you want to put him on the 2nd or 3rd line??????

Pretty simple, you sign him to a one year deal, and put him on the second or third line and see how well he fares. It would basically be a 48 game tryout. This is the perfect time to take a flyer on him because of the shortened season.

Gomez had no problem getting a spot on the Aces, and he had no troubles keeping it as he had 13 points in 11 games. You seem to be forgetting he was once a calder trophy winner, and stanley cup winner. He may not be as good as he used to be, but he sure isn’t as useless as you believe he is.

Why would you have Gomez take the place a young player? He doesn’t add value at all. Listen, the guy is being released by the team that finished last in the East Conf.

When Jordin Tootoo can get 1.9 million on a 3 year commitment. Both Redden and Gomez will get more than the league minimum.

Some of you pretend that these guys were 0 goals, 0 assists and a minus 50 last year.

What world are you from thinking that either is playing for the absolute least just because they were over-paid for years?

Because there simply isn’t the demand for them. Obviously the first issue is their performance the last few seasons and secondly, how many teams still need players?

I don’t want the Flyers to acquire Redden.

I deffo agree he’s better than Lilja or Gervais and I agree we need D-man depth, but I’d rather claim Adam Pardy off of waivers from Buffalo (he was put on waivers today) or perhaps make a trade with the Islanders for Visnovsky (since it’s obvious Lubomir doesn’t want to play for the Isles), who we could probably get from NY for next-to-nothing after the fiasco he’s put their club through….

Teams will be bidding on both these players, they will get more than the min.

I’d like the Flyers to look into Redden for the vets minimum. He would have been playing in the NHL if not for his bulbous cap hit. I still think he’s better than Lilja or Bruno Gervais. We could use the depth.

I gotta believe Gomez would be a good fit somewhere. I’m sure he wants to be in the game but will be cautious about who he signs with. Since the money side is basically a non factor, to a large extent, he can focus on teams where he feels he’d be in more of a position to succeed/excel in realizing his potential.

If you’re in need of a roster spot, why not offer one of them a one year, veteran minimum deal? I’d imagine they’d take it to re-develop their market value, especially considering they’re already making big money from the buyout.
