Tyler Ennis, perhaps his best comparable, signed for 2 years at $2.8 million per year. O'Reilly is already being offered quite a bit more than that. If he thinks he's worth $5 million per right now, he's off his rocker. (And IMO, Ennis is a much better player, but that's besides the fact).

I love O'Reilly but he needs to pull his head out of his ass. He doesn't deserve more money than Duchene when his role on the team is 3rd line center. His numbers last year are inflated courtesy of playing next to Landeskog all year and Duchene's were deflated due to injuries and playing with no talent around him. Everyone seems to be forgetting that O'Reilly's production dropped off quite a bit in the second half of last season. I'm surprised to read he turned down a 5 year deal when I didn't think the front office would offer anyone a 5 year deal after being handcuffed by Stastny's 5 year deal. Best case scenerio for O'Reilly is that Stastny isn't resigned or is traded and he moves up to 2nd line center, otherwise he's going to be a career 3rd line center until he moves on in similar fashion to Jordan Staal where he gets a better opportunity/role elsewhere. His best bet is to take the bridge contract and see what happens to Stastny.
