Correct. Training on their own is accepted by teams because it benefits them. This is why some players who went overseas had huge insurance premiums. The new CBA contains language allowing players to get reimbursed for trainers used during the summer.

So they don’t have to pay them. Why should a team have to pay a player that was hurt playing for someone else? If the player was hurt while training on their own, I don’t think they can be suspended.

Because they are not responsible for a player’s injury that occurred during the lockout, and therefore don’t have to pay a player who is suspended by the team.

Its a two way street and you know it. The owners AND players are equally responsible for the lockout, and the players knew the risk when they went and played in Europe.

…and before you cry that “Its the owners that locked the players out!!!” its good to remember that no professional sports league would play in this day and age without a signed CBA. Fehr made it sound like the NHL was doing something outrageous by locking out the players, but it was pretty much the ONLY choice the NHL had.

This may be a really stupid question, but why would a team suspend someone who was injured while overseas trying to stay hockey-fit? That just seems a little odd to me.

I don’t always agree with Mr. Wang and this is one example. If the owners, of which Wang is one, had not locked out the players neither would have been injured overseas.
