Lubomir Visnovsky‘s agent said he’d play for the New York Islanders if he has to, but it looks like he’s still holding out.

Visnovsky won’t join the Islanders Monday morning due to “personal reasons,” according to ESPN’s Katie Strang.

What are those personal reasons? Well it might be related to the fact that he’s traveling with the KHL’s Slovan Bratislava to Prague for their game on Tuesday, based on TV NOVA Sport’s Roman Jedlicka report.

The 36-year-old defenseman has has made it very clear that he’d rather play for Slovan Bratislava, but he’s still under contract with the Islanders. They still want him and recently booked him a flight, but Visnovsky didn’t get on the plane.

The Isladners can suspend Visnovsky if he refuses to play and either way, he might not be allowed to stay in the KHL.

“The KHL has repeatedly said that they will not permit him to play, so I guess we will have to see what happens,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said.

That contrasts KHL president Alexander Medvedev’s earlier statement that he will help any NHL player that decides to stay.

And so the saga continues.

Why will the KHL not allow him to play? Play where? In the KHL or NHL?

Initially the KHL said that they would honor the NHL contracts if and when the lockout ended and send the NHL players back. Now they seem to be singing a different tune.

Can you really blame him though, I mean its the Islanders

Yeah but what about Kovalchuk? He was possibly going to keep playing and I didn’t hear the KHL complaining.

Also why do people down vote stuff instead of taking 2 seconds to make an account and respond to the question…? Knuckle draggers..

Yeah, I can blame him. He signed a contract that included this year and got paid a lot more money in the bargain. Most any player who comes to the Island wants to stay–including Nabby. I suspect that Visnovsky will be the same.

Sucks for the Islanders, they gave up assets to get him out of Anaheim and now he’s acting like a child

I saw on twitter that the Isles were giving him until today to report–which suggests that he will be suspended and the contract tolled tomorrow. Then it will be a matter of what the KHL will do.
