His is a big body Dman that doesn’t play defense well at all. Skating is not a strong suit, he doesn’t get the puck up to his forwards fast, but isn’t the worst at this either…. he rarely uses his size to lay a big hit or position himself well along the boards…. what he does have is a killer shot that needs to be more accurate for goals or rebounds more importantly and he does position himself well offensively.. I always figure he would learn to use his body and defensive positioning would come over time but for whatever reason it doesn’t click with him in his own zone… I can’t remember back far enough to the days he got injured in San Jose (broken leg) but I think he has never advanced as a defenseman since then. He relies on his shot and GM’s love his size and hope he plays better for them than he has with others….. he did have a pretty good start with the Devils last year scoring but not defensively before being sent to MN in the Zidlicky deal.

I hope he turns it around for ya, but don’t expect him to be anything more than a bottom pairing defender and or an optional healthy scratch. I would assume the Flyers will make a deal for a defender on deadline day or just before then

It’s not Shea Weber but it’s okay to have extra, you never know..
If he doesn’t play very well you just healthy scratch him or move him to the AHL.

I just want to hammer home the player he is. Horrid Dman, I mean that, he cannot defend well at all….. great shot for the PP but it doesn’t hit the goalie / net nearly enough…. he is big but doesn’t use his body…. expect him to play on the PP and that’s about it…. this isn’t a ‘big’ signing and Philly will still be looking to add D elsewhere most likely.

He is a great dude and as a Wild fan I wish him the best. I always wanted him to work out here (twice) but that didn’t happen.
