Isles booked flight for Visnovsky to fly to New York and he wasn’t on it

Lubomir Visnovsky‘s saga with the New York Islanders has taken yet another crazy twist.

Arthur Staple of New York Newsday reports the team booked a flight out of Slovakia for the offensive defense to head to Long Island and take his physical with the team. The problem? Visnovsky didn’t get on the plane.

This latest development only comes days after his agent, Neil Sheehy, said he’d play for the Islanders if he had to thanks to the KHL and NHL respecting one another’s contracts.

If it were up to Visnovsky, he’d stay in Slovakia with his family and continue to play for his KHL squad. The Isles would much rather have him fulfill his NHL contract after trading for him this summer. One way or another, this situation is headed for an awkward solution of one kind or another but this latest twist was summed up rather well by Staple.

This guy should just suck it up for 48 games and stop being a baby!!!!

Maybe the tickets were in English ?

  4. mudkip23 - Jan 12, 2013 at 2:48 PM

He really doesn’t wanna play for the Isles, clearly

    • seahawks19081 - Jan 12, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Do you blame him? Would you want to play for them?

      • bcisleman - Jan 12, 2013 at 9:05 PM

If someone was offering $5.6 mil and a plane ticket to somewhere and do something that I did well that was neither illegal or immoral for four months, I would simply ask where I had to sign.

    • bcisleman - Jan 12, 2013 at 8:59 PM

No. What is clear is that he wants to stay in Slovakia and play. He has plainly said that it has NOTHING to do with the Isles.

No matter what happens, this isn’t going to have a good outcome. Either hes forced to play for a team he CLEARLY doesn’t want to, and with which there is no doubt a lot of bad blood by now… or he gets to stay in Russia and the Islanders get screwed. Not to mention if the KHL lets him stay in Russia, things between the two leagues might go really bad, really fast.

    • whatthepuck2012 - Jan 12, 2013 at 3:05 PM

Yeah, the Isles get screwed whether he joins them or not.

    • Geoff Nichols - Jan 12, 2013 at 3:53 PM

Since when is Slovakia in Russia?

      • whatthepuck2012 - Jan 12, 2013 at 4:25 PM

Holy hell I didn’t even catch that.

      • sheckyrimshot - Jan 12, 2013 at 5:44 PM

not all teams in the khl are in russia.

      • Geoff Nichols - Jan 14, 2013 at 7:32 PM

You missed the sarcasm it seems. Multiple other commenters were making references to letting him stay in Russia. I was pointing out that Slovakia wasn’t in Russia.

    • bcisleman - Jan 12, 2013 at 9:08 PM

He clearly doesn’t want to go back to America to play. He has said repeatedly that it has nothing to do with the Isles. And there is another possible outcome. Like Nabby, he might come and decide that he likes the Island and thrive.

      • tatdue - Jan 13, 2013 at 9:40 AM

Buddy I know you really don’t want to believe that the guy just doesn’t want to play for the Isles but think about it, the guy has been trying to fight this trade ever since it happened. First it was a non existing ‘no trade clause’ he tried to invoke claiming he didn’t want to move his family from Anihiem and it has nothing to do with the Isles, and now he doesn’t want to move his family from Bratislava and it has nothing to do with the Isles….At what point do stop listening to the b.s. and come to grips with the fact that he CLEARLY just doesn’t want to play for the Isles…..?

They should book him on the next flight out of Russia…..you know, the ones that take off on those REALLY short runways!

    • whatthepuck2012 - Jan 12, 2013 at 3:30 PM

Locomotiv jokes never get old, do they, jackass.

    Pretty classless rabbit.

  8. letsgopens8771 - Jan 12, 2013 at 9:45 PM

He needs to shut up and play. Just play 48 games, cause you won’t make the playoffs, get your money and then go back to Slovakia. I can’t blame him for not wanting to be an Islander cause the Islanders suck and forever will suck but just move on with your life. The Islanders management is stupid as well for going around in circles with this guy.

Hey I am an NHL player, I was lucky enough to get blessed with the skill to allow me to play in the NHL, oh wait, I can’t win with this team? Screw it I will cry and go home…

Sorry but this is pathetic. I have no respect for this player.
