He doesn’t fit in long term for the pens. But with only one year left on his contract, he’d be exactly the type of rental the pens need. Shero seems adept at swinging solid deadline deals, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Gonch was a pen come playoff time.

Eh. Pens have a small mountain of D in the pipeline. Despres and Morrow in particular are ready for at least bottom-pairing minutes. And on top of that, they still have a top four (in no particular order) of Letang, Orpik, Martin and Niskanen. Where does he fit?

Rumor popped up because of gonch and Malkin’s history. Unless Malkin pushed for it, I don’t think it would happen.

Gonchar hopefully isn’t going anywhere. Great pp guy and an underrated passer. Sens are heading back to the playoffs this year.
