So what happens then to the arena workers when the gates don't warrant the staff. They have been hurt enough through this process.

Not everyone who works for the leagues are owners there are hundreds if not thousands employed by the teams and organisation who need the sport back as much as anyone.

Boycotting does not help anyone or impact those you are aiming for. A well thought out petition or letter signed by as many people as you can may get the right people to notice but doubtfull if you can make an impact. It's the sad reality of the world we live in. Only people with real leverage outside the organisations are the sponsors.

It's time to stop whining and get on with it. I am as annoyed as the next guy but may as well put it in the rear view mirror and enjoy some hockey.

Fans... tired of being locked out and feeling like the useless pieces of crap the league has made you out to be?

TIME TO STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT!

HOW... you might ask?

BOYCOTTS. THEY ARE NESSESARY RIGHT NOW....more than ever.... OR ELSE THE LEAGUE WILL N-E-V-E-R STOP THESE LOCKOUTS!!!

We the FANS... aka the ONLY people who keep the NHL operating and pay the players salaries... we NEED TO MAKE A STATEMENT.

Watch games on Television, watch them at sports bars, get together with some friends, have a viewing party, etc. Remember in JUST a few months we will be preparing for a new season anyways. THIS is the time to send a statement to the league we will NO longer tolerate this type of treatment as fans!

History has shown the owners not only know the FANS will fill the seats, they EXPECT it.

Don't want to ever go through this emotional rollercoaster again?

YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.

Oh and I forgot a MAJOR point, you stated "We, the fans, won!"... HOW!?!?!? How out of everyone out there did the fans win?? The only people who lost more than the fans is the stadium employee's, parking attendants, restaurant & bar workers/owners, hotels & anyone else who depend on the NHL season to make a living. The only thing I agree with you on in your entire statement is the "Let's Play Hockey!" statement.

Joey I hope your joking about the owners not winning. All the owners did was win in this negotiation; all Fehr did was limit how much they were going to win. Please, please, please do not fool yourself into thinking things like "This deal should keep hockey going strong for a long time..." as if to believe there won't be a lockout in 8 years, because there will be! Why wouldn't the NHL lockout again in 8 years?? Look at what they've gotten from the last 2 lockouts! Not to mention fans are going to come running back so wth do they have to lose?? Nothing apparently! Best way to predict the future is look at the past and the past has shown that they lockout, get most everything they want, fans come back, revenues go up, teams stay in locales they are in, expansion into NW US and Canada is still possible to increase those revenues in strong markets. Now, why on earth would you allow yourself to believe they will do anything else.

Monster hockey has got it right! I agree, I won't spend a penny to watch anything but what's free on tv. If I happen to get free tickets to a game, I'll go, but I won't buy one beer, hot dog or any trinket. I feel sorry for the staff etc. but I will never again line the owners pockets with any of my hard earned income. As well, I will intentionally avoid buying anything the tv sponsors try to sell. Eventually, maybe someone would take notice that this game has priced itself too expensive for the average family. I guess I'm living in a dream world if that could ever happen. The other major league sports are no different.

The best news of all today is that we get to talk about hockey for at least the next 8-10 years instead of lockout crap. One thing I'd like to see happen when all the "I's are dotted and T's are crossed" is for both Bettman and Fehr to step down simultaneously. It's time for hockey people to run the league again and both Bettman and Fehr came in from outside the game. The next commish needs to be someone from the game. Ideally it would be someone accomplished in one or more areas of the game who has universal respect within it. Two guys who are in the HOF as players, have front office/ownership experience and also have their law degrees are Bobby Orr and Ken Dryden.

Buffalo65 seem to be stuck on Fehr against Bettman. His logic seems to be the League didn't take everything away from them so Fehr did a good job. What he and other may miss is the except for the lockout, the PA would have played under the old CBA forever. It worked very well for them. Instead as compared to the old CBA the PA had a reduction in hard dollars is almost every area; HRR revenue, salary cap wages, the enforcement of contract length and variance which didn’t even exist in the old CBA. As well, the PA made no gains on revenue sharing and backed off the $395M make whole money and accepting $250m and $50M for the pension. What Buffalo65 discounts totally is the player’s loss of $700m in anticipated wages for basically the first half of the season that will never be recovered. Fehr can never say to the players, “I told you I’d get you more if you hold out.” but he can say, “not counting that $700M thing, I helped to limit your givebacks.” I do feel that both sides have damaged the reputation and the game of hockey for years to come.

I was worried there for a bit and quite pessimistic, but it was pretty clear there would be a season once actual negotiations started last week. In hindsight, the whole thing seems to make a lot more sense now. The owners probably gave Bettman the mid-January deadline months and months ago. Donald Fehr's job was to keep the union together and get the players to hold out until as close to the NHL's deadline as possible because that's when they'd get the best deal. Bettman was trying to put pressure on the union to fold and sign a deal before the time was right because that deal would heavily favor the owners.

I guess it all makes sense, but that doesn't make me any more likely to drop several hundred dollars this shortened season on Caps tickets and a new Nicky Backstrom jersey. Two lengthy lockouts in less than 10 years is too much to put the fans through. We still have every right to be angry and withhold money.

Great news! The players didn't win and the owners didn't win. We, the fans, won! It's a fair deal for both sides. This deal should keep hockey going strong for a long time. I wish it would have happened four months ago but I'm happy it's done. Time to hear the Wild guest host yell "Let's Play Hockey!!!" Woo hoo!

They only sacrificed off their demands, they simply moved from their crazy first offer. The owners actually gained a lot as the players gave up tangible things they actually had in the last cba. But who cares! It's over!

Holmgren needs to either sign or make a trade for a more "head-strong" stable goalie this Summer.
After the horrendous 2012 season of Philly sports this is the first good news I've had in months. I'm ecstatic to see my Flyers back on the ice. But I will still be boycotting games and merchandise this season. The league has to learn that we won't stand for this crap every 7-10 years, especially when this deal could've been reached in September if not for greedy posturing. After defying logic for months I was almost positive this deal would never get done. But I'm very thankful to have hockey action in 2013. The new year is looking very bright. Go Flyers!
