Paul Kelly. Kelly was the smartest guy the NHLPA ever had in charge, which is of course why he was fired in a late night palace coup in Chicago. Paul Kelly was focused on the overall financial health of the league, knowing that when the league was healthy, competitive pressures between the teams would always ensure that the players were paid well. Just look at the last few years for confirmation of this.

The old guard, though, didn’t like seeing their Executive Director having a cooperative relationship with the League – they wanted the old, confrontational approach, and wanted to settle some scores from 2005. Nothing says “old school” like Don Fehr, so they went out and grossly overpaid Fehr, and his brother, to take the old school approach. What did that get them? About the same deal Paul Kelly could have gotten them, and with about $800 million in salaries permanently lost. Hope that was worth it…

You think there is a person in the world other than Fehr who could have done better, name him. You think there was a better way for the player to achieve their goals, name it.

You can’t and won’t do either yet you will still attempt to portray Fehr as a failure like many won’tcha?

Don Fehr was hired by the players to right the wrongs of 2005, and get them some significant wins. Far from getting any wins, the players’ share of HRR is going down to 50% from 57%, which the players swore would never happen, and their contract rights have taken a significant haircut, which they also swore would never happen. If Don Fehr is able to sell that to players as a victory, God bless him.

The Shill of shills. Bottom line: Fehr has out-stared Bettman. He knew that the Little Dweeb was unwilling to stage a
lost season for the second time in eight years. And though Wee Gary and Bill Daly —- and what a ridiculous puppet that
classic chrome-domer has shown himself to be. Remember? “The deal will not get better!” “This is the hill we will die on.” “This is our last best offer! What is keeping the NHLPA from understanding that very simple language!!”

Believe me, Fehr is no angel. The league does have serious issues. But those issues are tied to Wee Gary’s idiotic foray
into the Southwest, and to obeisance to owners likes Jacobs who disdain the game, and to the refusal by the NHL to address the Elephant in the Room —– clubs’ revenue sharing —– which even my senile grandma knows is the only logical, real-world response to the financial woes that are in play.

So all you morons who smugly assured us that the NHL would crush the union, was not bargaining in bad faith, would exact a far more onerous deal for the players to eat, was in control all along? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

The bottom line? Bettman totally soiled his panties many, many, many hours before Fehr — love him or loathe him — even thought he might need to even think about wandering over to the men’s room.
