I know to some of you this may sound stupid but, I couldn’t think of what pay-per view event it was but, go to YouTube & type in Greatest Promos Of All Time : Jake “The Snake” Roberts Wrestle Mania VI ! I think it suits the situation the NHL, & NHLPA are putting fans, consession workers, & anyone else affected by the lockout . Sorry, I’m not technologically inclined to post it here !

I don’t think either side actually planned for this crap to go on this long. At this point both sides have lost a fair share of cash let alone the beating the brand has taken. I just think that the way that the NHL started this negotiation things had to go down to the wire in order for the players to get any leverage at all. Now that they’re both in real danger of losing big money the real negotiating has begun……

Too many lost wages, staffs that are out of work, 4th line on the AHL-NHL bubble players not receiving their checks , I just cant buy into any scheme theory that some have is all really.

Wow! I actually agree (somewhat) with one of your statements finally Buford… While I DO think Bettman saw how well the shortened season for the NBA worked that he did have that idea in his head and probably had a plan for it.. I DO NOT believe all this garbage about this elaborate scheme where Bettman and Fehr were actually actively plotting this scheme to just draw things out until a Jan 19 date as if it were preconceived. It seems if anyone on here says anything to the contrary of that belief they are called ‘sheep’, meanwhile most of those people calling others that are a small group of people it happens all the same.

Personally I think the owners just simply thought they would have deal done in time for the WC and AG and completely underestimated how polarized the players were and what a polarizing effect that first ‘shot at the ego’ offer had. I think Bettman knew that Fehr was going to be formidable but I don’t think they thought that the players were going to be hardnosed enough to actually be willing to give up a whole season if they had to in order to make the point that lockouts do not equal you getting everything you demand.

The PA could file and they could still sign a deal in the time between the filing and the court hearing. But, one would have to assume if the PA decided to go that route that the are VERY unhappy with the way things are going right now. With the open exchanges going on it seems they are on the right track at this point. However, that Jan 2 date is NOT etched in stone.. the players can re-vote again at anytime to give the Executive Board the same power again at a later date. So as we’ve seen it took about 3 days to get it done the first time around, my guess would be that if these negotiations breakdown and the Jan 2 date has passed they would just simply vote again and then promptly file it in court. At least that’s my understanding… perhaps someone here could state it more clearly.

If they start the season on January 19 or so, this is right around the time that the Islanders are essentially eliminated from post season consideration anyway so I don’t know that it matters that much. If they go to a 30 team post season I’m thinking we got a shot!

I don’t would to sound overly optimistic but I don’t see how these “negotiations” collapse at this point. Both sides realize and probably planned for this to happen all along, well at least the owners were okay with a shortened season but things seem to be positive, mature, realistic, scheduled.

Hoping to hear that the season is a go soon

If the union has to file the disclaimer, can it continue to negotiate on behalf of the players until there is a hearing or does it immediately end the NHLPA’s right to negotiate? If the latter, this has to be the reason why the owners started negotations up again at this point…to take away leverage from the players who will feel a need to get something done by the midnight filing deadline.
