This is where you have to give credit to the Canadian players for their forechecking and defensive zone play. Russians were just not efficient getting to the net.

Lipon was suspended because it was a hit to the head. It was not from behind nor was it boarding. Can’t use this one to compare Nichushkin hit on Wotherspoon.

They looked very strong I their zone protecting the middle of the ice, and their forechecking was very effective. To Yakupov, “Ensure brain is engaged before ope Ning mouth!”

Nugget-Hopkins has the softest hands and sweetest passes. Sub an was very good, but again he has to control his rebounds more efficiently. Drouin was very good as well.

Hit from behind. If Camara’s completely clean and legal hit got punished (even if the IIHF did admit it shouldn’t have merited a call afterward), there was no way they were going to let a hit from behind slide just a couple days later.

Meh, it was in line with all the other ones we’ve seen. Nichushkin hit Wotherspoon right between the numbers and even changed the angle of his hit to do so. Definitely deserving of the penalty but there shouldn’t be a suspension.

Honestly, that was a bad call. 2 minutes, sure. But 5 and a game was excessive and was the deciding factor in the game.

Canada looked really good shutting down Yakupov and Co. all night, especially on the PP. If not for the one misplay by Scheifele this would’ve been a shutout. Subban was great again nonetheless. Big win for these guys.

And anyone who in the wake of his suspension suggested Boone Jenner was training for the NHL goon squad need only watch him in this game to know how wrong they are.
