It will take a long time for the fans to forgive both sides for all of the delays in these negotiations. Why should the players care when they were picking up a check in all of the other leagues.They should have been standing in front of arenas with fire barrels and picket signs.I think they would have had a lot more backing from the fans.And some of the comments they made were terible expes. the one about how the players would love to stay in there home countries ,if only the money was as good I say let them stay I allways loved dump and chase hockey .Who needs cycling the puck?
And the Owners think that all of the fans will run right back,they don,t know that the only people watching are the die hards,I think the owners took the hit on this one.It’s going to take years to get it back So lets get it going I can,t stand the N.B.A. (sorry Lebron )Please drop the puck.

I am going to wait to celebrate until after the PA counters. Back a few weeks ago Daly, in and interview with the Ottawa Sun, said something to the effect that the PA wanted the HRR to end up at more than the 50/50 split. Just not getting my hopes up.

You are kidding right? Daly is offering concessions on conditions that did not exist in the previous CBA and will exist if accepted by the PA i.e. contract variance, contract term limits, not to mention 10 year CBA deal and a reduction to 50/50 in HRR. Fehr really did kick some ass there. It makes me wonder what the players gained for their $750M in lost wages?

Sounds great on paper, but Fehr will almost assuredly demand more because now he smells blood in the water. He doesn’t care about the sport he is representing and he certainly doesn’t care about a fair deal, all he’s concerned with is fleecing the other side for all it’s worth.

This IS a step in the right direction, but I’d be stunned if they accept. Best case scenario is probably that the PA demands more, the NHL says no but DOESNT get all pissy and starts pulling offers this time, and in a couple weeks the PA gives in and accepts. This will almost assuredly go down to the wire.

“This was the very best deal we could offer” – Gary Bettman, after each of the last 4 offers. .

“Contract limits are the hill we’ll die on” – Bill Daly, before ALLEGEDLY moving finally on contract limits.

Any doubt why Fehr keeps pushing the envelope? There’s culpability on both sides for this lockout nonsense, but it’s pretty easy to see the NHL has bungled these negotiations since their initial offer that cut the players share from 57% to 43% completely solidified the players’ collective resolve.

Here is the problem. If history is any guide, this is a take-it-or-leave-it offer with no means for the NHLPA to counter.

For whatever reason, Bettman has not wanted to look like the league was negotiating with Fehr. Instead the NHL issues ultimatums and then comes back weeks later with “improved” terms some based on previous NHLPA ideas.

So… will Fehr decide this is the best he can get the players or will he press-to-test one more time?
