I would be very interested to hear from a player who thinks that the League’s offer is just, “enough to restart talks,” exactly what does holding out longer would accomplish? I mean in the face of what has been lost already and what the potential of a lost season brings, how important are the remaining issues.

Get your Gravol ready – this may come down to Bettman announcing the cancellation of the season on January 7 or so, followed by Fehr calling him to try to continue the negotiations. (This is what happened in February of 2005.)

Bcjim – I’m not sure that would be such a smart move on Fehr’s part my friend? Sooner or later these players, dumb as they are, will come to the realization that Fehr was nothing more than a “paid” implant who was embedded at the helm of the NHLPA in-order to render their entire effort “compliant and impotent”. And when that happens, they’ll be looking for Fehr’s head. I suspect that once this business is concluded, Fehr will be looking to retire with his millions somewhere overseas where it’s warm and sunny … perhaps Costa Rica or Belize?

If the NHL submits a carefully prepared 300p proposal (as has been reported) and Fehr pooh-poohs it and says ok lets talk about what we actually might do, Bettman might just come and personally beat his azs.

The players have/are doing NOTHING to get this going. They are only obstructing, imo.

Fehr should just hand out scalpels to the players so they can just slice their nuts off cleanly and be done with it. It seems thats what they are intent on. Ridiculous.

If this is true, (and it has been the players idiotic MO), they are complete morons. This, like other league offers is take it or leave it. The NHL doesnt want to “restart talks” or “consider a counter offer”. They want yes or no. GOT IT PLAYERS???

Any other answer and you’ll be looking at ANOTHER week of NHL silence and this time, probably an announcement of no season.

Or at least that’s what my old friend Stransky told me many years ago. And it makes sense when you think about it, as no matter how hard you try to prepare one, they inevitably never turn out “quite” the way you had hoped! Anyway, you guys who are all serious about “sources” and who really has them and who really doesn’t have them, should now just give it rest. We’re all here at PHT because we’re hockey fans and we love the game. And now lo and behold, it looks like we’re finally going to get our game back. Be happy friends !!!

Also, you were saying it was a done deal with the season starting January 1st just a week and a half ago.

Well, since they said that they would probably meet right after the holidays, and that many sportscasters were saying that the games cancelled to the 14th or so would be the last batch before a season was cancelled, you certainly didn’t turn into Nostrodamus or anything…
