Professional athletes are a stubborn bunch. Can not agree with you enough. And neck guards might also have a duel purpose. A couple years ago I read an article where a doctor studying concussions found that by having a band on the neck slightly constricts blood flow from leaving the brain thus giving the brain more cushioning and possibly reducing concussions. No idea if it works, but the dude was thinking outside the box and beats the hell out of more “safety” equipment.

Neck guards should be mandatory. Malarchuk, Zednik, this… One of these times they won’t be so lucky. It’s not like a neck guard hinders performance. Two minutes after you put it on you forget you are wearing it.
