A recent article discussed that the damage to the NHL “brand” during the lockout is worse than the damage suffered by the BP brand during the Gulf oil spill. The study was intended as information for the NHL’s corporate sponsors to make business decisions from. I would imagine the list of sponsors grows smaller with each new block of games that gets cancelled.

The big 3 Canadian teams may make money but it seems the bulk of league revenue lives in the States. People down here are becoming less and less interested. There are only two American hockey cities where the NHL is the only professional game in town, San Jose and Raleigh (Columbus has Ohio State). People just have other things to do/watch.

Considering the state of the economy in North America the timing of the lockout raises serious questions about the business acumen of NHL personnel/owners.

i think this is just a giant game of chicken btw nhlpa and nhl. nhlpa has nothing to lose. nhl has bigger issues if major sponsors bail out in the next couple weeks. we will have hockey.

goes back to original argument at the beginning of the lockout. nhl owners, especially bettman never understood how fehr operates and this is the reason why we are in day 90.
