Thomas reportedly participates in NHLPA conference call

He may be sitting out the season, but apparently Bruins goalie Tim Thomas still cares what’s happening in the NHL.

From CSNNE.com’s Joe Haggerty:

According to several sources, the 38-year-old goaltender sat in on one of the NHLPA’s recent conference calls discussing the NHL lockout and related players association business. The two-time Vezina Trophy winner kept silent during the conference call, and  Thomas has been holed up in his Colorado residence with his family while focusing on “friends, faith and family” after declaring this summer that he wanted to sit out the 2012-13 NHL season.

Assuming Thomas still plans to take the year off, he won’t get paid any of his $3 million salary this season (if there is one); however, the B’s will still be responsible for his $5 million cap hit. As such, they may try to trade him, possibly to a team that needs to get above the cap floor. (He’d look good lounging around at home in an Islanders jersey.)

Thomas is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

I didn’t know they had land lines or cell reception in the bunker in Colorado.

He’s just hedging his bet in case the world doesn’t end tomorrow.

Maybe Timmy knew something about the 2012/13 season before anybody else. He just announced it 7 months before everybody will. I guess all those Bruins fans made a big fuss about nothing. Timmy T the prophet?

A LOT of players knew this was coming. bow does the talks of a MULTI-YEAR lockout seem more probable?

    RIP National Hockey League.

at least we got all the players playing down in the minors so I don’t really mind! the AHL has a ton of NHLers and the ECHL is pretty much the AHL.now. such good games and you can watch them all on America One Sports online!!!

    such it Bettman and Daly!

Timmy isn’t as crazy as everyone thought eh?

I don’t think he’s crazy. I’m just really disappointed in his off-ice stuff. On the ice he was brilliant. All that Facebook political grandstanding (after he said he wasn’t being political and wouldn’t be political) really turned me off to him. Didn’t help that he is so right-wing as to make me nauseous.

Tim Thomas is a member of the NHLPA? He’s supposed to be staunch Republican. He’s union and tea party member, which one is he? Hummm!

Did Thomas see his shadow when he came out of the bunker? if he did, there will be a season after all….
