Well you succeeded in drawing out the most dramatic scenario. How about having an idea, getting a patent, growing a company, seeing something rise from nothing? And you’re right in that I did interpret the question as what I’d find more fulfilling/rewarding as opposed to what would be the most convenient. I do work hard, I always have, and that is something I’m proud of. There are far too many people who make excuses all day long for why they are where they are in life, and choose to blame the government for their situation. Stay in school, don’t take extra breaks, god forbid get in early or stay late. Smoke if you want to if it means less of my money being zapped through taxes. While you’re eating junk food I’ll work for that next promotion.

McKenzie broke down the numbers, the contract length cap of 5 years would affect a slight minority of players. The CBA length would be great for the sport in that it’d provide a little stability, plus it had a mutual opt out clause.

ucan: If it “worked out” why did the owners choose to lock the players out again? The owners browbeat the players into accepting the last CBA (which the owners now claim is bankrupting them) and they are trying to repeat the whole charade all over again. Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. Talk about slanting it any way you want….

It’s about power. Only the owners have the power to end a lockout. Only the employees have the power to end a strike. All this assuming courts and government don’t get involved of course.
People can BLAME either side but fault is not debatable. It is black and white. Employers could continue to run and meet the employees demands. Employees can continue to work in abusive conditions. It’s a choice to lockout or strike. Again, not saying to lockout or strike is not a proper solution to a given problem, just saying there is a difference between fault and blame.
Lockout is 100% owners’ fault. It’s black and white. Justified or not is a matter of opinion.

Well! A lockout can occur when the employees demands are exaggerated. fault = employees A strike can occur because the owners are abusing their employees. Fault = owners. All is not black or white. There are indeed many shades in between.

I agree id4joey but it really all boils down to my synopsis of the situation. Take out all the fluff, opinions, numbers, and emotions and that’s what you have.

Lockout= Owners’ fault
Strike= Players’ fault

It is the owner’s right to declare a lockout, and it is the player’s right to holdout until they get a deal they deem to be fair. However, the players have much more to lose than the owners. It seems they are willing to lose another season, and still get screwed in the long run. How is the membership looking out for Adrian Aucoin, and others like him?

Very simple:

Lockout= Owners’ fault
Strike= Players’ fault

Whether you want to cast blame on the owners for their demands or the players for not giving in to the demands is completely irrelevant.

Sorry, but maybe his goals are good but his timing isn’t. You don’t come across as believable in negotiations when you spend the $’s he spent and a few weeks later start crying the contracts aren’t fair.

Would you say the same thing to a doctor that is considered the best in his/her field? Enough of your whining about money just be happy you’re a doctor. It takes years of conditioning, training and raw talent to make it in the NHL. Before you make the argument about doctors saving lives look to the stars that donate millions to hospitals and charities and tell me that hasn’t helped people. If it was so simple wouldn’t we all be pro hockey players?

Yes he is, but as in moving forward not towards the deals he made this past season.

It was an odd stance for him to take but he is wanting this for a future aspect of the game, not past. He is willing to pay the contracts he signed to both Parise and Suter, he just doesn’t want them to keep happening each free agent year. These types of contracts kill the middle to low market teams. I am sure Nashville is just bleeding dollars right now and there are around 10 squads that cannot afford those deals anyhow, it makes the ‘fair’ salary cap not so fair after all.

The questions wasn’t which would you find more personally rewarding, instead it asks which would you prefer. So tfaltin I ask you this, would you prefer to be paid 1 million dollars for 20 years in a hard labor camp, or would you prefer 1 million dollars giving to you? Staying true to your post, I would say that you are in fact the best hard laborer in the camp. You stand shovel and pick axe above the rest. Deep down you know that you earned it and are better than the rest. On the topic of the lottery if the federal government would create a national lottery we could be out of debt in 5 years.

The average salary went up from 1.7 million to 2.4 million during the greatest recession since the great depression!, and league parity became the norm so that a different team has won the stanley cup for the last 9 years! Soooooooo, what exactly did the player’s “learn” again?

Slant it any way you want. The cap, the more balanced HRR….it worked out, and the numbers prove it.

There are 6 to 8 teams that still struggle which is down from the 20! that did before. It’s 7 fffing percent and guess what…the players don’t lose jobs because teams don’t have to contract!…..They should have just taken the 50/50 split and played the 82 games and we all would have been better off.

I had no problem with the signings, it’s good to see a team become relevant again. If I am wrong let me know, but isn’t he one of the main negotiators trying now to ban/reduce those type of contracts? That’s whats wrong, if he signed those guys and sat back, no problems. But signing them then trying to demand they be banned, that’s a problem…
