Reminds me of the “Bo Knows” commercials, especially the one where the comment is a question, “Bo Knows Hockey?”, and Gretzky appears on camera and just says, “no”. Same here. Worry about balancing the budget Barry, and quit driving the debt to a level that’ll never get paid off. Funny… he talks about rich players and richer owners not being able to figure out how to divide the money they make. Like he knows what earnings and spending equate to.

My original point was that anyone who thinks his current tax plan which essentially only includes $4B in additional revenue from the rich will have ZERO impact on our fiscal mess. His spending cuts are a sham… they don’t exist. They are based on funny math. So when someone claims Obama wants to make things right they are getting clowned. He just wants to promote more gov’t dependency but has no way to pay for it. If he really wanted to fix our mess he would really tackle entitlements which he won’t do.

Considering the fact that Obama’s 2008 Presidential victory was the equivalent of being promoted to captain of RMS Titanic “after” hitting the iceberg and that we’re where we are today still “above” water, I’d say it’s not such a bad idea to listen to the man. Remembering “who it is that’s putting all that money in their pockets” is exactly what these guys should be doing !

You are incorrect. You would be closer to the truth if you said 46% households (not people, different metric and much more parsing needed) pay $0 in “federal income taxes” not “federal taxes”, which include FICA and Medicare taxes. If included all federal taxes that 46 is now 18% as 28% pay federal payroll taxes and don’t earn enough for income tax payments. Oh that 18%, well 10% of that are elderly retirees and the other 8% don’t work and maybe free loaders. Percent of income paid for total (All Federal and State taxes) amount taxes based on income, ranges from 17.4 for those who make under 20K to 29% who those who make over 450K. Which to me, makes the over all picture maybe fair or close to slanted towards those who have the most resources.

“Rich” people currently pay 90% of all federal income tax. 47% of americans pay $0 in federal tax. So what exactly is “fair share” to someone like you? 100%? Nonsense.

Obama is completely clowning you. Even if his plan to tax the rich goes thru exactly as drawn up it will raise $4 billion per year. The deficit is about $1.2 trillion per year. So what’s the plan for the other $1.196 trillion?

Sorry, you can’t cherry pick the part of the “Clinton era” tax cuts & expect that to fix this dumpster fire of an economy. The Clinton era tax cuts raised taxes on everyone which is basically what will happen if no deal is met & the Bush tax cuts expire. In addition, Clinton ended “welfare as we know it”…u know damn well that ain’t going to happen. Yet that played an important role in Clinton’s success whether he initially wanted to do it or not. Clinton compromised & is remembered as fiscally responsible, Obama will demonize in an effort to punish the successful even if it means no deal. If both sides would truly give a little to get a little, they could do us all some good. I’m no math expert, but I’m sure that he could tax the top 2% at 100% and that wouldn’t put a dent in the problem. QUIT SPENDING!

millertime30, garbage? What garbage? However, I understand your point. It’s impossible to read someone’s state of mind when reading text unless said text is annotated with emoticons. But, here’s a hint, when sarcasm is abound, then one can be sure that I’m not being serious. Would you believe me if I said I personally know Sid and his agent Pat Brisson? Bet you wouldn’t which is why I won’t say if I do or not. Yes, I do infer certain things and its up to the reader to decide. I have met and gotten to know many many MLB and hockey hall of fame players. I’ve met Brian Hayward at an airport and struck up a conversation with him. It doesn’t mean I know him. I’ve also run into Brian Mulroney, Marcel Aubut, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Michael Bergeron, Michel Petit, Phil Esposito, John Vanbiesbrouck, Glen Sharpley, Mario Lemieux, Pierre Bouchard, and many others. Here’s the thing about me, when I meet these people I’m not awe struck and always try to have a conversation with them if they have time. And I use that time to ask pertinent questions to educate myself.

As usual, the President is right on the money. I agree with him 100%.

And to those commenting on the fiscal cliff, as long as the teabag folks are willing to let us raise taxes back to Clintonian levels on the top 2% of earners (a group I – and all of the rest of you – will never be a part of…unless you invent the next hot tech item, inherit wealth you did nothing to earn, win the lottery or back-stab, brown-nose, cheat or steal your way up economic ladder – all highly unlikely possibilities), we’ll have a deal in place before 2013.

It’s time for the rich to pay their fair share…especially considering they share a good part of the blame for the recession we all went through the last several years.
