Pastabelly The NHLPA has never moved to 50% there offer eventually after 4 years get their. But the PAs first official offer was for a 57-43 split in the NHLPA. They later. Made a second offer (the players) which was widely publicized and that offer was 56 – 44 for players. The owners meanwhile moved from 43 to 50% in their publicized offer. The players talked 50% but have gotten nowhere near it in offers.

The old cba is expired. They aren’t moving from 57% to 50%. Once September 15th hit and no CBA was agreed to the players are making 0%.

They’re moving from 0% to 50%. 50% sounds better than 0%. And that’s just HRR…..

Agree. Get all you can. But a lot at risk here more on the players side. Blom is right, there are many teams making $ now because they are not loosing it. Owners have massive fortunes and hire the best accountants and lawyers. Tough match up. Like me vs chara. I mean Mr. Chara.

Ducks OK were cool.
IMO though, NHL players get paid the least of the 4 sports and they have to be in better shape than any athlete in football, baseball or basketball; top to bottom. Their bodies go through way more punishment than in any other sport. They also have the shortest off season of the 4 sports.

So I don’t begrudge any NHL players salary. 1st liner making huge $ or 4th line 5 minute guy, making league minimum.

I’m with the players, they are across the board the finest men and pro athletes out there. Bar none. But, at what point do you fight for the best you can and call it a game? Or do you continue to fight the fight and die on your sword. The owners are not going to budge much. They are business men, most are fine men too, but it’s all about the bottom line for them. 2012 the new world order.

The players, as well as the first-responders, soldiers, etc., you mention are products of the system. People want to be entertained and are willing to pay for it, while at the same time whining about being taxed (and paying accountants to limit what they have to pay). The entertainers get the discretionary income while the really important people have to hold bake sales to meet their budgets.

yes and no friend … while it may be “zero” for the players, I would argue that at least 18-20 x owners (ie: corporations) will be experiencing an “improved” P&L bottom line this year with no hockey … sad but true …

Ducks…have you forgotten the horrendous eye injury and the time it took Manny to get back to playing. Manny means a lot more to the team than 11 goals. He is one of the most respected players in the league and plays a huge role in the Children’s Hospital fundraising, among many other charities.

Don’t diss a guy when you know nothing about him.

Yes indeed, as with that 2.5 million he’s earning approximately “8 x times” what Prime Minister Stephen Harper currently earns … so needless to say, I also agree that it’s a “disgrace” the players are being taken to the cleaners like this !

I hear you friend no doubt. But let’s cut Malhotra a little slack eh ? After all, he has no further knowledge or sway over what’s “really” happening than some hapless starfish caught up in a tsunami-sized wave ! Nonetheless, he’s a good player and an “excellent” person in everyday life … and he means well. No, this thing is going to end when “Bettman” decides it’s going to end, not a minute sooner and not a minute later. I just hope and pray that the little “cagey” NY lawyer’s plan calls for the charade to end now during the coming week ?

ps: can’t recall ever offering you an Elvis number ? … sorry about that man !
