No word on next block of canceled games

Is a non-event actually news? Whatever, there’s nothing else to write about, so here it is – even after Thursday’s fireworks, the NHL won’t be announcing the cancelation of another slate of games today (as per The Record’s Tom Gulitti.)

The lockout has already caused the schedule to be slashed through Dec. 14. Given that’s a mere week away, there will be more slashing to come. To what date is the question. (Jan. 1? Jan. 15? Aug. 1?)

Earlier this week (remember when everyone was all optimistic and stuff?), people were debating the appropriateness of a Christmas Day start. Technically we suppose that’s still possible, though it would take a serious change in momentum. Or a time machine.

Yesterday, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said he had no “magic date” on which he plans to start the season – a response to those who believe the league has had this whole charade scripted from the very beginning.

“You know what my magic date was?” Bettman said. “It was Oct. 11, when we should have opened the season with a new collective bargaining agreement. And the fact of the matter is, we’ll get to a point, at that point we’ll conclude we can’t have a season with integrity, and then we’ll have to make a tough decision. I am certainly hoping that we don’t get to that place. But when we do, we’ll be there.”

Keep in mind it’s possible the league is waiting to see if the NHLPA goes the decertification route before announcing the next round of cancelations. In which case the following clip seems appropriate:

only id4joey knows the real start date to the season since he has so many sources and insider information. i just wish he would tell us all the real start date rather than another fake start like all the others he has given us thus far.

    • id4joey - Dec 7, 2012 at 3:58 PM

id4joey has given a potential start date assuming the conflict would have been resolved by Dec 7th. d4joey said there would be more games cancelled today. At least one week (dec 16-22). This gives both sides the opportunity to negotiate some more and attempt to resolve the conflict before they have to cancel the last week of Dec, which will typically have to happen no later than Dec 21.

well little joey, you are wrong yet again because no games will be cancelled today. your sources did you wrong again. also, it’s so easy to just throw dates out there in reaction to any morsel of information we are all fed. as you well know i have said all along tht the season would not start before mid-December IF At ALL and, guess what, i was right. i said i had a reliable source, and guess what, i did. so, ass-clown, please stop your annoying, meaningless, self agrandizing posts and just go away once and for all.

      • id4joey - Dec 7, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Yeah! I’m going to go away just because you are taking a dislike to my comments. Yawn!

      • kirkmcleansbaby - Dec 7, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Well just to prove how DELUSIONAL you are id4joey………….here is what ID4JOEY……..not this d4joey person you blame for yet another failed ‘tip’ from a good ‘source’

        *Quote copy and pasted*

        id4joey – Dec 6, 2012 at 8:40 PM
Sources are telling me that more games will be canceled tomorrow. Sigh!

Nice try with the lie though……..doesn’t work when when everything you write gets saved on the net. *Facepalm*

      • id4joey - Dec 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM

kirkmcleansbaby, I really don’t have a problem with you. The only thing that bothers me about is you just love to “repost” my predictions that have not come through because my sources tell me things are evolving by the minute. You post these in order to make yourself look smart. GREAT MAN good for you! Its cool that you get to do that… but why in the world would you?

Why, do you have to continually copy and paste threads that I’ve already stated? Does it really mean that much to you to be able to go back 3 weeks and say.. “Look I was wrong?” I mean its one thing to simply say “I stated earlier that blah blah blah..” but its totally another to go back and find old posts and copy and paste them back up. Do you have an open document that you put all of my posts in just so you can copy them and repost them?? Thats the only thing that irritates me. A lot of the time I like reading my own insights on things.. but not 4,5 or 6 times.

You just come off as an A-hole and I guess I really think you are. I don’t think you really care about hockey and have thoughts, info and comments like the rest of us. Most of us don’t need to feed our ego’s in order to make other perceive us in any ‘special’ way. Personaly I would never re-post myself to show how smart I am. LOL!

Cancel til oct.10, will still be here, we love you guys NHL(pa), because you’ve been so good to us for the last 10yrs,we fill your wallets with $$$ and yet your still so curtious to argue over that same $$$ knowing that your least most popular pro-sports league in the US(not to me though) -sarcastic-

  3. Joey Dumbfeld - Dec 7, 2012 at 4:02 PM

the reason they havent announced a cancellation date for the next “block” of games is because the next “block of games” they cancel will be the remainder of the season….. any fool can see that

    • id4joey - Dec 7, 2012 at 4:34 PM

Will! I guess that makes you a fool!

  4. flyerfan2 - Dec 7, 2012 at 4:26 PM

I am a hockey fan over over thirty years. I play, my son plays. I no longer care about the NHL. Sad thing is I dont miss it. NHL will never acheive the revenue growth used in these “negotiations” as more fans tune out and move on.

Just heard M Schneider on NHL Home Ice talking about how this deal is for the “middle class” players. Yeah, middle class making what, a measley $2M/yr? Must be tough.

    • stakex - Dec 7, 2012 at 6:30 PM

Well actually the low end NHL salary is around $500k (though its rare to see a one-way contract bellow $750k)… but even someone making $500k isn’t “middle class”, they’re “job creators”.

  5. stairwayto7 - Dec 7, 2012 at 4:37 PM

Next game will be played Jan 2014!

    • Joey Dumbfeld - Dec 7, 2012 at 4:41 PM

      at the earliest !

  6. ironmike778 - Dec 7, 2012 at 4:37 PM

Just call it a season already. I’m not interested in 60 games crammed into 3 months. See you in October.

    • zetaone - Dec 7, 2012 at 5:01 PM

Then you’re not a true hockey fan. I don’t care how pissed I am at these guys, I want my hockey back NOW.

See ya later fair weather fans.

      • nderdog - Dec 7, 2012 at 5:47 PM

And that’s the attitude that lets these idiots (both owners and players) get away with this childish crap. It’s battered woman syndrome. Sure, he beats me to within an inch of my life, but I love him, so I don’t care what a crapweasel he is. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy hockey that don’t involve dealing with a league full of schmucks who couldn’t care less about the fans and what they want.

  7. id4joey - Dec 7, 2012 at 5:07 PM

mpg1219, why the hell that it bothers you weather I’m right or wrong? And the season won’t start before Dec 15. Good call! When will it start?

    • stakex - Dec 7, 2012 at 6:31 PM

I don’t think it bothers anyone… we all know you’re wrong.

  9. mattyo99 - Dec 7, 2012 at 5:33 PM

I’m so tired of ppl claiming to be “real hockey fans” and others aren’t! We are all fans if were posting on here, some ppl, fans are just fed up, and i agree with there frustration, why should we give these bagel eating owners any more of our $$!? I mean c’mon, the players are freakin whinny babies too, so were getting screwed from both ends, gettin played for suckers, time and again.. I love hockey, but The NHL(pa) is a disgrace, not giving a s**t about us.. They need to pay for this outrage..another “true fan” taking it up …

    • Joey Dumbfeld - Dec 7, 2012 at 5:40 PM

I’ve never ate a bagel in my life of course in saying that, I’m not Jewish , (thankfully)

  10. stakex - Dec 7, 2012 at 6:34 PM

I actually find it kind of strange that more games weren’t canceled today. I mean even if a deal was struck by Monday (obviously it won’t be, and I doubt the sides will even talk before then), we probably wouldn’t see games start till AT LEAST the middle of the next week (around the 19th). Given that a deal over the weekend is all but impossible, it would have made sense to cancel at least another week, since its already to late for those games to be played for the most part.

Then again, I guess it doesn’t really matter.

  11. id4joey - Dec 7, 2012 at 7:20 PM

    Dumbfeld, I’ve never ate a bagel….. Really!

  12. id4joey - Dec 7, 2012 at 7:22 PM

stakex, you re right about canceling more games. It matters to me and my sources because now they feel bad about what they said would happen hasn’t happened yet…. The day isn’t over.

    • AlabamaFanRollTide - Dec 7, 2012 at 9:43 PM

are you sleeping with these male sources of yours? word travels quite fast up there in the rotten apple called NYC

  13. matt8204 - Dec 7, 2012 at 10:00 PM

Billionaires vs. millionaires…remind me why we care again? This sure as hell isn’t our fight. Hockey or no hockey, it’s not putting money in my pocket. If these fools want to forgo millions, let them have at it. Doesn’t change my life one bit. Maybe I’ll watch some games on TV when you decide to end this nonsense, but don’t expect me to schlep to an arena and fork over money to watch a game again. This is beyond stupid.
