Bettman to hold press conference Wednesday afternoon

Dec 4, 2012, 10:37 PM EDT

Tuesday’s players-owners meeting is extending deep into the night, but Sportsnet’s announcement that Gary Bettman will hold a Wednesday afternoon press conference might not mean as much as some believe.

The reason is simple: Bettman’s 1 pm ET presser was already planned before Tuesday’s meeting (which excluded NHL commissioner and NHLPA head Donald Fehr). It was planned in advance to coincide with the end of tomorrow’s Board of Governors meeting, according to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio.

Now, there is the chance that Bettman could have an important announcement, too. It all depends upon how discussions go.

Various reporters indicated that the first portion of Tuesday’s talks provided some progress, prompting the sides to split for dinner and reconvene around 10 pm ET.

It’s anyone’s guess how much closer things could be to an end, although one anonymous player told the Sports Business Journal’s Chris Botta that the meetings haven’t been a waste of time, either.

I’m a pessimist by nature, and it’s really p*ssing me off that I keep getting optimistic about this crap.

This might be the time to be a touch optimistic. The sides are fairly close overall, with only a couple major sticking points and a fairly small amount of money between them. Its not going to take much movement from either side to get a deal done, so if theres any progress at all it could well lead to a deal.

Thats not to say a deal WILL happen, but things seem to be going pretty good. I don’t think the two sides would have met again at 10PM if there wasn’t something at least a little positive happening.

The announcement will be ………………………………….. the 2012-2013 NHL Season has been cancelled

  5. id4joey - Dec 4, 2012 at 11:11 PM

Just got off the phone with a voice in NY. Things are moving well. Players are slowly realizing that things won’t get much better than what the owners offered. Will the players finally see the f***ing light. Now, if there isn’t a deal by Friday, we may see another week cancelled, which will be a very positive sign. Will the season start Dec 21 thanks to our man Sid? If you want up to date info, you can email me at GeneralLee1175@gmail.com.

“It was planned in advance to coincide with the end of tomorrow’s Board of Governors meeting” …

    THIS IS IT !

Joey and other assorted friends. I’m convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that “joy” now awaits us with Bettman’s planned conference tomorrow ! Yes, there will be an agreement announced and we will have a season this year ! I knew in my heart from the very start that this just had to be a “contrived” impasse. And I’ve been convinced all along that just as sure as rats are inclined to leave a sinking ship, so too are those with wealth inclined to behave in a predictable “self-serving” fashion such as this. So regardless of the upset which has now been had due to this idiocy, I for one say … “on with the show !” … :)

I just figured it was the easiest one for you to remember considering your pea brain.

LOL aww look Joe-Joe you and your boyfriend dumbfeld are back posting together again , I’m kind of glad Dumbfeld has made another absurd prediction about the lock-out , seeing how ya’ll have been dead wrong with every time ! … and tomorrow will be noooooooooo different

  9. id4joey - Dec 5, 2012 at 12:17 AM

I’l have you know General, that the owner of the TB bolts also incorrectly predicted the lockout would end in Oct. when did you first predict the season would be cancelled?

    • General Lee 1175 - Dec 5, 2012 at 12:22 AM

the instant i saw your post

    • blomfeld - Dec 5, 2012 at 1:08 AM

Id4joey – The irony is that the Army of Northern Virginia would have absolutely no place for a “cowardly and useless” goof like this General Lee idiot (aka Mississippimudslinger). In fact, I’d venture to say that this pathetic troll isn’t even from the South, such is his lame and gutless banter. I’ll bet you anything that my old friend Stransky would identify this loser as living in either northern Idaho or western Montana ? :) Anyway, things are now happening man and I can just “hear” an agreement being announced within the next 48 hours !

      • General Lee 1175 - Dec 5, 2012 at 12:28 PM

lol dumbfeld i own you , i literally kick you around like a redheaded step child, oh and psssst, have your “buddy” check my IP Addy … what will he do when it shows Corinth MS?…

  10. id4joey - Dec 5, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Voices telling me that the meeting just ended, and it was a very productive and positive meeting scheduled to continue tomorrow. Progress was made, but there is still much work left to do.

  11. id4joey - Dec 5, 2012 at 8:20 AM

blomfeld, well. My friends from NY are telling me they are optimistic once again. Pat Brisson is present and coaching Crosby before and after the meetings. Will it be enough?

I love how you all think you know what the f&@k is actually going on. What a joke!

Guys, don’t get your hopes up about hockey starting soon. I don’t mean to be negative, just a realist. we’ve been slapped, drugged, and run over by the league, then spit on by Bettman. don’t ever forget this, fans. I also have helped other fans get through this time of shame, so ill share a lil secret of the best place to watch hockey (College, CHL, ECHL, etc.) its all on America One Sports online. Best thing ever during a NHL lockout!!!
