Reading is fundamental:

“The “Frozen Fenway” event that originally accompanied the 2010 Winter Classic might just become an every-other-year event in Boston.

its not just Massachusetts, its New England in general. RI, NH, VT, ME all have strong hockey roots. Heck a little state like RI has Providence College in Hockey East and Mt St. Charles, a high school powerhouse.

You should probably understand that hockey is huge here in the Northeast and because of that, the ice is completely booked by men’s league teams, pick-up skates, schools, public skating etc.

So many stupid people. This has nothing to do with the NHL, Bruins, or NHLPA. It’s for college hockey and high school. If you knew anything about anything, a large majority of hockey players from the US come from the Massachusetts area. Also, there is Harvard, Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern, UMASS, and and a bunch of great prep school teams in the Boston area. This event is strictly for the Boston-area. It has no bearing on the NHL, the Bruins, or the lockout. You think it would fail? BC-BU is arguably the best rivalry in sports. And they did it for a second time in 2012 when the WC was in Philly, they just did it a week later and they completely sold out as if it were the WC of 2010. Seriously, did people even read the post?

Uhhh, actually you both are the morons. It said the first time they did this was for the Winter Classic in Boston. They then continued it because it sold out in minutes. The second time was in 2012 where if you haven’t been living under a rock and are a hockey fan, the Winter Classic in 2012 was in Philly. And the events started on January 7th, well after the Winter Classic in Philadelphia. Boston is a great hockey town and they love their college hockey due to the large amount of college hockey teams and college aged kids in the area. So mpg44, use YOUR brain a little bit and learn how to actually read an article.

“Frozen Fenway is an annual series of collegiate games featuring hockey teams from local and regional colleges and universities, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of New Hampshire, University of Maine, University of Vermont, Northeastern University, Boston College and Boston University, and is held during the first part of the event. After the completion of the hockey series, the rink was opened to the public for free ice skating.”

The second sentence of the article even says “The Boston Red Sox are planning a possible THIRD edition of the event for 2014″.

Honestly the article was like 7 sentences long.. it takes at most 30 seconds to read.

Detroit is already locked in for the next(2014) classic and if the Wild make the playoffs then MN will receive the next classic. If they do it right they will throw in a high school tournament plus gophers vs badgers.

I’ve happily seen more hockey games in Fenway than baseball games. Snowed the entire BC-BU game the 1st year and got to see my alumni play UVM the next. I don’t understand how people can complain about seeing the best hockey division in the NCAA suit up and play under the lights at Fenway. It’s freaking awesome and not to be missed!
