I don’t know how true this is but there was a story after the last lockout that Forsberg was on his way here to Boston to sign when, mid-flight, he said what am I doing and the plane actually turned around.

I hate when people cite that he’s spent to the cap the past few years to exculpate his near-40 years of horrendous ownership. Spending all your money poorly isn’t enough.

That’s a misconception. You can’t buy championships in the NFL anymore. The salary cap prevents it. Most teams spend to the cap. Jerry has no advantage there. If the Cowboys were the NFL version of the Yankees, they’d be making the playoffs most years and actually winning sometimes.

Those early 90s superbowl teams were put together by Jimmy Johnson and paid for by Jerry Jones. Jerry got greedy (because that is his nature) and ran Jimmy off thinking (incorrectly) that he could do it all by himself and take all the credit. He still suffers from this delusion. That’s really what it is – a delusion. I believe the man honestly thinks he’s some kind of God. He also has a compulsive need to whip out his ego and stroke it publicly… which is kind of… irritating. No, by my calculation, Jerry’s leeway in Dallas ran out in 2006. Now pretty much everyone wants him dead… er, gone I mean.

I didn’t know Cowboys fans disliked him that much. I figured the 3 Superbowls he brought in the 90s earned him some leeway. I definitely see the frustration in fans every time I catch cowboys games though. Non cowboys fans don’t like him (IMO) because he’s like a mini Steinbrenner. Wealthy beyond imagination, seemingly trying to buy championships. He physically embodies the word ‘greed’. I think that rubs people the wrong way. Although it could just be me.

An example of his being a jerk – in Buffalo his brother was a world class doctor, a MS neuro specialist, one of the best and a tremendous person. He died 10 years ago of cancer. So, the Jacobs foundation decides to donate a huge amount of money to the hospital. What do you think should it have been for MS or cancer research? How about neither, he made it a cardio donation. He probably has heart problems!

I do wonder how the Bruins would have been without Jacobs and less penny-pinching over the years. Having an owner who spends wildly isnt the necessarily better though. I will say, they have spent decent money in recent years. It also speaks to the effectiveness of Chiarelli. An owner who players don’t hate would be nice though.

We Cowboys fans absolutely loathe Jerry Jones for hiring himself as GM, driving the franchise into a ditch, then refusing year after year after miserable year to set his ego aside and fire himself. Other teams’ fans seem to dislike him as well for whatever reason (but not nearly as much as actual Cowboys fans do). But at least he’s not spearheading a lockout and f-ing everything up for everybody!

Jacobs has been a historically cheap owner of one the richest franchises in the NHL. He reminds me of Mike Brown in Cincinnati aside from the fact that Brown is too cheap to pay for a GM. I’d argue that Brown is probably the cheapest of all the owners. Wait, I forgot about Loria.

Jacobs bought the Bruins and 1975 and the team didn’t win a championship for 36 years. They’ve had some great players with poor supporting casts due to Jacob’s penny-pinching ways.

He should sell the team to Robert Kraft.
