I blame the players. They already make way more than enough to play a kids game. Yet for some reason they think there should be no restrictions on contract length or amounts.

I say the players should go out and get a real job and see how they like the terms of employment. A real job isn’t anything like the cushy game they play. In a real job you actually have to be productive and prove your worth before getting paid.

I say lock them out for 2-3 years and see how they like it.

Why bother resuming talks? Why not just let the despicable NHL die the ignominious death it so richly deserves? It’s getting too late now to have a meaningful season, although the NHL has never had a meaningful season. Just shut down the worst excuse for a pro sport ever and follow pro basketball.

i’m a die hard hockey fan but…..i’m to the point where i really don’t care anymore.if they come out with a deal next week it probaly won’t do much for me really.this season has already been tainted and all the excitement i had at the end of last season is gone.

Having been a part of several mediation’s, I see this as a positive sign. Typically when parties agree to mediate, they both want to resolve the issue and agree that they need an objective third party to intervene. As a previous poster said, they won’t even be in the same room together. The mediator will “relay” what each party seeks and he will offer his opinion of what is reasonable from each. Given the amount of dollars in play, I can easily see this one lasting at least 3 to 4 days.

Last time we brought in dream team of fed mediators we lost the season. See you on the other side of fiscal cliff. When a deal is done it will because the players cave in. Could be next week.

The silence you hear is apathy. I never hear any news about this lockout from the media any I live in the state of Hockey! The NHL and players don’t seem to get this. Very few people in America even care that there is no NHL this year.

Mediation rarely has the opposing parties meeting face to face. In this case this is good because it removes the animosity between the principals. Generally, the groups are in different rooms and the mediator goes from room to room to present issues, offers, opinions and possible solutions. Mediation works best if the parties want to settle or agree. What I think can come out of this is ostensibly, the mediator’s “good sense” convinces both sides to make the deal and both the NHL and the NHLPA walk away with their head held high even if one or both of them had to move off their original position. I think this is more important in Fehr’s case.

I’m still hoping for a deal by the Board of Governors meeting on Dec 5!

Be patient, it’s posturing on both sides. A deal will be completed by Friday or Saturday. The Board of Governors meeting is next week. The timing is perfect.

I was actually wondering if the two sides were going to meet WITH EACH OTHER with mediators present. You know, actual mediation?

In regards to “holding my hand through” I am sorry, but I thought that detailed and thorough written reporting was actually supposed to do that for the reader. Your response is what I would have expected from a shoddy product to begin with.
