I don’t know if it’s possible, but why don’t the players force this guy out of hockey by simply refusing to play in Boston? This may be difficult to do with draftees and some trades, but free agents and players with no trade clauses can certainly refuse to go there!

The thing that sucks is Jacobs won’t get hurt at all because B’s fans will pack the Garden when this ends. He gets his revenue with lower cost and takes the increased profit to the bank.

I’ve been blaming Jacobs on PHT boards for a while. He’s a selfish prick who only spent when his once loyal fans stopped showing up. Now, he increases ticket prices and wants give backs from the players.

Jacobs is indefensibly stingy, but Haggerty is a hack. The news in this piece was an exchange pointed at Winnipeg, but beyond that it’s baseless speculation from a self-aggrandizing outsider.

I think Dolan would be a good guy to try to get things going, but unfortunately I don’t think he has the respect. I get the sense he’s viewed as sort of a Biff Loman. He’s powerful enough though that if he could get Snider & maybe Ilitch to side with him they could at least make a respectable case for why they need to be more reasonable & not squash the bee because they want more honey from it.

People like Jim Dolan need to speak up more and throw their weight around. Much as Ranger fans dislike him, he wants to play hockey. If 7 owners are vocally pro-lockout and the rest kind of twiddle their thumbs about it and leave it to the lawyers, then Bettman is going to respond to the will of that vocal minority. If other owners spoke up and were as noisy (privately, mind you) about getting back on the ice as some are about continuing the lock-out, Bettman would have to listen.

Jacobs is a fool. I don’t think he’d know the the players on his team if they were in front of him. It has nothing to do with the cap and everything to do with concessions. He doesn’t care about hockey at all he cares about deleware north. that is all. I hate that man. He got lucky by getting the cap and then following up with Neely, PC and Claude. The whole cap thing he is talking about is kind of stupid to be honest. There are about 20 other teams that would take Rask over their current goalie- regardless of his unproven past – his talent is pretty clear. they are actually in pretty good shape. nobody is really overpaid, and the guys that are questionable are moveable pieces with a good young farm to replace those players – Krejci is moveable at 5.25m replace with (spooner, knight, khokhlachev) Savard gets IR’d clearing 4m+, Lucic is moveable at 6m and thomas (this year) can be cleared against the cap. disappointed in haggs – he is usually good, but I haven’t read the whole thing yet. Krejci and Lucic could return something cheaper and NHL ready if needed and they would be more than ok with Bergeron, Seguin, Kelly, and campbell down the middle for the next 5 years; Peverley at first glance seems overpaid, but then you watch him play and look at his numbers 3.25m for a 50-60pt guy who is strong defensively isn’t too bad. again. this whole thing is not cap related it’s Delaware group, and revenue sharing – he doesn’t want any of his money to go to the Phoenix’s of the league. I wish Bob Kraft would buy the Bruins.

Jacobs is rotten piece of garbage, but I’m also starting to hold the “doves” responsible. If you want to strike a deal, find your sack, grab it, and say so. There are 23 owners being hijacked by 7. Unless someone does something soon, the NHL as we know it will cease to exist. You can’t just kill two seasons in eight years, paint some empty fan apology on the ice, and roll the pucks out in 10 months.

Jacobs is universally hated here in Boston. He earned his reputation as a cheap owner. He underpaid Bourque for his whole career. And wasted the careers of guys like Bourque, Neely, Oates, Sweeney, Juneau, Middleton, etc by NEVER making that late season addition to push them over the top.

Even when they won the cup plenty of fans were booing him.
