DBacks:19th out of 30 teams (55%)
Suns 21st out of 30 teams(85%)
Cardinals 27th out of 32 teams
Coyotes:30th out of 30 teams(72%)
Phoenix is the 6th largest city in the US.

Looking at the statistics with a 10-year window is an incredibly long stretch of time to make informed decisions. Perhaps, a better analysis would have included a 5-year window and 2-year window to make it relevant to more current trending. The problem with reaching back 10 years is that it gives you dated and historical information that could be skewed with front-heavy data spikes.

I’m sorry, Phoenix is not a strong sports town? Ever been to a Cardinals game? Ever heard of the Suns? Remember the 2001 World Series?

Coyotes still had the worst attendance in the league averaging about 12.500 per game(about 70%). Look for that to go down to under 10,000.
Fact is Phoenix is not a strong sports town.

The fact that the DBacks were on this list tells you exactly what you all need to know when you talk about the Coyotes. Phoenix fans want production. The Coyotes didn’t have that for a while (thank you Gretzky and co.), but at the end of last season, people in Phoenix were pumped! It’s not that hockey can’t survive in the desert. It’s that the people of Phoenix want winning teams. Of course, as I have said before, the momentum from last seasons success has faded thanks to this lockout and it’s mother Gary.

I guess the goodwill from a run of success (a Cup in ’99 and a Finals appearance in 2000) only lasts for so long.
