folks here don’t like your comments. Must be the players. Fact is, they have a short working career and in that span even with 50-50 split they still make a ton of money. Its like watching a power ball winner complain. The players better fire fehr cause he will lead his lemmings over the cliff ledge. the economy suffered the last few years and I doubt very many owners made money on this service line. Dig in owners and let em burn.

donald fehr doesnt compromise or negotiate. His consession or only a win for him. Until the players fire him, they will not get this done.

I wish the players would just realize they have no leverage in this. Zero. Imagine going to your employer, AS AN EMPLOYEE, which is exactly what players are, and telling your owner that because he’s making more money, either he pays you more, or you walk. Your butt would be out the door faster than you could spit. The owner takes all the risk in running your company, you don’t. The owner is the one responsible for making your company viable, you’re not. You’re a contributor, and oh, by the way, you can be replaced. A little different in pro sports because people want to see the best perform. But at the end of the day, fans go to be entertained, to get away from real life for a few hours. I’m not a pro-owners guy, but I am a realist. The players have no leverage. The owners get their TV revenues whether they play or not. The players getting paid right now? Get your collective @$$es back on the ice. All you’re accomplishing right now is pi$$ing off your fan base.

Some of you guys need to take a Reading Comprehension course. Nowhere does he state the players are going to cave on contracting rights. The last 2 player offers (both of which the NHL rejected in under 1.5 hours of “negotiation” combined) have been heavily concession-laden. Fehr/the players already HAVE compromised. The NHL hasn’t given ground on a single thing. Remember when the NHL claimed to honor the make whole 100% on their end? Turns out that was an outright lie. Anybody on the owners side in this is either a pro-corporate Fox News viewer, or just plain stupid (and those two are not mutually exclusive).

You guys always whine about how much the players make, and then immediately start with the predictable prognostications of “the players are about to crack now that they’re missing checks!”. This isn’t the NFL or NBA. The players aren’t on the hook for 20 man entourages, dresser drawers full of bling, 10 different baby mamas, leech family and friends, mansions, and 10 different Ferarris. Notice you didn’t see a single NHL player on the ESPN special “Broke”. Notice you haven’t seen any NHL players on MTV Cribs. NHL players are a fiscally responsible bunch and they’ve been making arrangements to be without checks for some time. They’ll be just fine if they miss a season, just like they were last time.

Tempers flared, patience tested, people calling for decertification, but the process continues. The NHLPA wants contracting rights and the NHL wants a true 50/50 split and both will give back some.
