Blomfeld I was at that New Years eve game and yes Tretiak was a stud in net for sure and at the other end of the ice Dryden looked like a frozen stick man. The only time in my life I ever wanted the Habs to win a game and it was not to be. The Flying Frenchmen were flying and the Old Forum was buzzing with intense energy, The Legal Eagle was booed loudly before the game. Goodtimes for everyone that night. Yes you are totally correct it could have and should have been a double digit rout by the Habs and I tip my hat to Tretiak.

Valoisvipers – thanks man ! … yeah, it was fun watching that “Flyers vs Red Army” game yesterday, however I also missed the famous “they’re going home” moment which happened in the first period … I always thought it was in the third ? … funny how the old memory can play tricks at time eh ? .. anyway, the absolute best game of that series was by far the New Years Eve game, eleven nights prior at the Montreal Forum … it was only because of Tretiak’s heroics that those Flying Frenchmen didn’t get into double digits !

Gotcha, fair enough. I meant “known to the public” more in that the NHL won’t acknowledge the idea that the owners aren’t fully united in this. It’s definitely a crappily kept secret on their part.

The majority of owners don’t want a lockout but Bettman only needs 8 votes to institute & maintain a lockout. The owners are under a gag order not to discuss their stance publicly. Even if you don’t believe the stories about the disagreement going on amongst the owners, the owners are obligated to be united in cases like this because if it some point THEY need something going against fellow owners on a key issue could come back to hurt them.

Yeah you’re right. The multiple times Fehr worked to prevent sports leagues from shutting down should be disqualified because of the TWO times it has happened during his career as opposed to Gary Bettman who now has THREE that cost the NHL games with one full season and as well a FOURTH that didn’t end up missing any games thankfully.

Dam I have been waiting for this game since the start of the rerun games and wouldn`t you know it I missed the first period.Suck Bang Blow to that.I remember it was like they were poking Hound Dog Kelly with sticks to rile him up and then let him loose on the ice. He was a relentless beast. One of my best hockey memories.
Windmiller4 Don`t go there, just don`t! There are no better fans of the game we love than Blomfeld. He sir, is a REAL fan of the game and right now his Kings rule.

I really think that if a majority of owners didn’t want a lockout there wouldn’t be one. I really think that if a majority of owners didn’t want Bettman in charge he wouldn’t be commissioner. The owners would have spoken up by now, or within the last 20 years. Instead, Bettman is still commissioner. Actions speak louder than words, and the actions of the owners is that Bettman is still in charge.
Additionally this whole minority, eight owners thing is the minimum, MINIMUM, number of voting owners Bettman need to act on a labor issue.

That sums it up nicely. I don’t know enough about decertification, but there are some that think that it would blowup the NHL as we know it and force a massive reconstruction of the league – something that is long overdue. Kills the season and maybe two, but could be well worth it if we get competent leadership out of it.

Conversely, we could use a WHA start-up right about now.

O’ Canada you say? How could our home and native land have reached this state? Well it’s because of the fact that our only other sporting event the Grey Cup will be played today and all we will have left is pissing and moaning about how a Canadian based pro hockey league would make us hosers happy. True patriots believe that given the strength of the loony we can pay our boys to stay north of the boarder eschewing the Yankee dollar. Meanwhile current NHLPA leader Mr. Fehr and owners of the NHL franchises are trying to divvy up the possible revenue from selling the North American broadcasting rights to mass suicides. The immolations are scheduled for the day the season is officially cancelled. Meanwhile in the evil empire to our south Americans are asking what the initials nhl stand for. One wag on he street opined it must mean Not Here (much) Longer. All we need said one of the frustrated Montreal Francophones is a Canadian born Commissioner. You see Pierre Garage said ” only Canadian farm boys from Alberta could possibly understand the game. However he must speak French and support a separate sovereign Quebec. The only real problem I see is there are no Canadian born hockey players left in the Country as they are apparently all in Europe pretending to love the wider ice surfaces.

So who is negotiating? A collection of losers who need a new deal because, during a period of unprecedented growth in the NHL, they can’t figure out a way to run a business.

Boston’s Jeremy Jacobs, Calgary’s Murray Edwards, Washington’s Ted Leonsis and Minnesota’s Craig Leipold were in the room this month when the NHL took all of 10 minutes to reject a proposal from the NHL Players’ Association.

Yup.. and Bettman’s doing this for free right?? The only differences are, Bettmans been getting a check every single month… Fehr, hasn’t gotten one since July… Bettmans checks at the end of the year will equal $8 Million (would rank him in the top 5 of players) and Fehr’s will be no where near that. What they both have I will agree with you guys on is… Neither of them do it for “Hockey” they BOTH do it for money. The only difference from this lockout and the last is Fehr’s as big an ass as Bettman!
