I am thinking about it and I realize the players need the owners and the owners need the players. The league won’t magically fill roster spots for every team and players won’t make the cash they do in the NHL consistently anywhere else. You take sides, and you participate in a stupid pissing contest.

Heard behind the scenes at at NHL negotiations.

“Well fellas, we’re solving that popularity problem. I was starting to get worried about the increase in revenues, the growing popularity of the game in general, especially the all star game and the Winter Classic. Those big gains in TV viewership were becoming a problem.”

“Yeah, and we players were starting to make too much money. A lot of good players were becoming household names they were so popular. And hockey sweaters, way too many hockey sweaters out on the streets. Thanks to this work stoppage, we can take a huge step backward. I’m tired of my fans recognizing me when I’m out on the street.”

What are they thinking, anyway?

Over the course of the last year the Blue Jackets have lost their captain, lost the first pick in the draft because of the lottery system the NHL employs, had Jeff Carter talk his way out of town and had their All Star game cancelled because of the lockout. Hell, Ryan Murray just got injured as well. When does this franchise become the next Atlanta Thrashers? They are one of the franchises that have a long record of losing money and good things do not appear to be on the horizon in Columbus. Will Gary and the owners have the guts to make a move anytime soon?

Apparently you, like everyone else has missed the All-Star Game for the better part of 2 decades. Not very fun to watch. Scorers score, defenseman think they are the second coming of Marian Gaborik and play as much defense as you and I do in the All-Star Game, and goalies have no chance.

See these responses Gary Bettmen and Donald Fehr? These are real people, or in your eyes valuable fans who aren’t going to pay attention to the NHL from now on. I don’t care which side is good or bad, the fact of the matter is everybody on both sides are making more money than I will ever make and they’re screwing over everybody else. This is ridiculous and pitiful…With that said, the exact people who should look at these blogs and news sites won’t because they’re too scared of reality. We’re all preaching to the choir.

I am done with NHL. Still follow AHL. But tired of this bs. In 1997-2002 had pens season tix. About 35-45 a pop for d level. Those seats are about 90-100 now. Most people’s pay checks haven’t doubled. These guys cry about money. Go out in real world and try to make 800k. Or 12 mill. Good luck boys

I agree … the ASG has been a joke for 30 “plus” years now … newer fans to the game don’t know that and yet you can’t blame them, as that’s all they’ve ever seen … anyway, good riddance to that garbage ! … the WC is infinitely more compelling and fun to watch … regardless, Bettman had better decide to get things going here pretty soon, or this is indeed going to become a pretty bleak winter … it’s getting nerve-racking now no doubt, however I’m still convinced that we’re going to see a deal being announced here shortly …

I’ve said it before and I will repeat it again. You have millionaires arguing with billionaires over money and because of massive egos you have totally screwed up the sport. You make noise about really feeling bad for the fans well this fan says save your sympathy – I don’t want it. I will not be back in an NHL stadium again. I am getting my hockey itch scratched by watching NCAA hockey and you know what? It is really good and exciting hockey and those young men DO CARE when they see fans in the bleachers. So NHL go screw yourself royally.

“On a positive note, the ASG, and games in Dec haven’t been cancelled yet. Will the ownership cancel either one to put pressure on the PA? Certainly canceling games in Dec will have a crushing effect on the union, and perhaps the final blow to break them. C’mon players. Think! Stop shooting yourselves in the foot.”

Actually, blaming both sides is a win for the owners…..think about it. The owners get to hold the season ransom until the players give in to all demands (in other words take it up the arse) and you blame the players for it as much as the owners….hell you might as well send your favorite owner a present and tell them thanks for taking the season away, I’m looking forward to you guys doing it again in 6 or 7 years!……THINK ABOUT IT!

I think all those that work in the arenas during a normal hockey season, from the ticket takers, to the beer sellers, to the souvenier shops, security, et al should be part of that class action law suit. Every non-hockey playing person that is losing income from this ridiculous lockout should get involved in a a suit.

Open Letter to Mr. Bettman –

You’ve had 8 years to work on this – you failed.
Within days of the last agreement being signed Managers were offering multi million dollar contracts to players – you failed.
Public Relations this time around – you failed.
Understanding that not only does this lockout affect players and fans, it also affects those thousand of workers who work the arenas for every game – you fail again.

Time for you to take your ego, pack up and get out of town.

Do what baseball fans did. Leave. Baseball lost a ton of fans after their last work stoppage. They had 8 stoppages in 25 uears. Guess what happened? They started to get deals done early. They haven’t had labor problems since 94/95. The fans left for years and the league listened.

I am sick of being treated like a chump.

Time for action, Fan Action.

Plot #1: I say we fans pick a weekend that has the most games and show up at the arenas. Demand a hockey game and when denied burn all our hockey stuff in the parking lots.

Plot #2: Class Action Suit. I am a 20 game season ticket holder and have already been charged for tickets. My ticket book full of games came in the mail and THERE ARE NO GAMES. I am not the only one, and I say Breach of Contract! Fans can get lawyers too NHL and NHLPA. I am sure there are some lawyers out there that go to NHL games, well how about some Pro-Bono help here guys? TRIPLE DAMAGES!!!!

Plot #3: We the Fans demand a seat at the table. Hear that NHL, NHPLA? We the fans, the people that pay all your salaries and create all the wealth that you are fighting over, DEMAND a seat at the table, preferably at the head of the table so you have to listen to our representative when we all meet.
That 3.5 Billion dollars didn’t just fall out the sky you know.

Those are my ideas.
