This is why the NHLpA could care less about the older players or 4th liners. What is their revenue production to the union? Older players don’t make enough and are about to be done, 4th liners are of little income for the union. The Union is only about those $40 million plus guys who make a TON for the NHLPA.

There is no concern for all players…what a naive thought.

This is a few people in control of all with little regard but for few. Just like ALL unions!

It’s funny how speaking your opinion makes “95% of the union hate you”. If that is the case, why would anyone want to become a member of the NHLPA? Just a picture perfect example of why unions are going the way of the dinosaur. They’ve been useless for 40 years, the only thing that keeps them around are the bribes and payoffs. There WAS a time where unions were a great thing, now they are as corrupt as the people they were supposed to be stopping

1. The players union has no leverage. Thats why the players ALWAYS lose CBA fights in pro sports.

2. Most of the players in the NHLPA aren’t super stars with massive deals “on the line”. There are a lot more players with situations like Hamrlik and Neuvirth then there are guys like Crosby and Ovechkin. So you better believe 95% of the union doesn’t hate these guys… its more likely that 50-70% of the union actually agrees with them but is afraid to say anything since the show is run by a handful of very very rich super stars who just need more.

3. On the subject of contracts “on the line”, don’t be so over dramatic. No ones contract is on the line. At worst, with absolutely no “make whole” provision, the players would give up 13% of their contract. Do you honestly feel bad for a guy making $10 million “only” getting $8.7 million instead?

And the number isn’t even that low anymore since the owners offered to “make whole” most of the lost money from going to a 50/50 split in year one. Which means the players are dragging this out over 3-5% of their huge contracts.

…and guys who just want to end this and get back on the ice are the “selfish” ones? What a joke that is.

Just patiently waiting for the season to start, and get their second cup.

I don’t know much about this guy, yet it’s obvious he’s got to be a bona fide “grade A” idiot ! Oh sure Brouwer, go after someone like Hamrlik who has the courage to say it like it is, eh ? Yet “mum’s the word” eh when it comes to the biggest back-stabber of them all, your big captain man “me stay in KHL” Ovechkin ? What a gutless act of “cowardice” and what a complete ! It’s obvious that the Capitals do indeed have a problem on their hands, as the writer here alludes to. And therefore it would be prudent for them to deal with the likes of Brouwer and Ovechkin post haste !
