valoisvipers, hey! Sorry for the late response. It was a horrible day work today. Ryan Dadoun has a great article on this topic. You probably say it. It would get messy, and I agree with Daly that it would lead to the cancellation of the season should the PA choose to go down this path. Federal CDN/US laws, then you have Provincial/State laws. A f in mess.

Blomfeld perhaps you or Joey could inform me and others like me that are ignorant to the decertification process. I must be wrong in my thinking that this would be a good thing.Would it mean that the owners would simple have to honor all existing contracts but the league would then be free to handle their business in any manner that they choose?

Decertification works fine for Ryan Miller – as a top shelf guy, he gets paid regardless, and in fact probably ends up with an even healthier salary. How about his backup, though? How would he fare in decertification?

Decertification is the ultimate, “be careful what you wish for” prize. An “unplugged” NHL with no cap, no draft, unlimited free agency, etc., would very quickly be down to only 12 teams or so. We can pretty much name the teams now – Rangers, Flyers, Habs, Leafs, Hawks, Bruins, Canucks, Kings, etc. All other teams would either fold, or be in a Second Division of some kind, much like British Soccer. This second division would be a glorified AHL, basically. How much would players make there?

This has the possibility of making a lot of money for guys like Crosby, Toews, Miller, etc.. It also has the possibility of drastically cutting the pay, or entirely eliminating jobs, for literally hundreds of NHLPA members. If Don Fehr is being forthright with his guys, he has to prepare them for the fact that someone might call their bluff on decertification, and that full decertification would have some very dire consequences for players as well as owners.

The difference with the NFL and NBA Mr Miller is they actually had relative negotiations and are a much more relavant sport. Also they started the decertification much sooner, NFL missed 0 games and NBA missedvery few. This whole thing is a joke, good luck getting all that fan momentum back.

If the players truly cared about saving the season and keeping veteran players like teemu, jagr and hamrlik from retiring due to a lost season then they would file the decertification papers later today or during the weekend.

As I agree that the NHLPA should decertify, does anyone know if there is any language that says they cannot do so if the current CBA has expired for a certain amount of time? Because in the NFLPA’s case there was language to that end which forced the NFLPA to make the move early. The reason I ask is if there is such language the players may not have a choice here but to wait if out until a certain amount of time expires. In the case of the NFLPA it was 6 months.

“Why decertify now?”
“Two reasons. First, the CBA barred the players from filing antitrust lawsuits against the league for six months after the deal expired. Second, in order to possibly keep legal proceedings under the jurisdiction of U.S. District Court Judge David Doty in Minneapolis, the union needed to decertify before the current CBA expired.”

@ Jimw81 – My goalie lists mean nothing, no different than my Elvis videos mean nothing and just like anything “you or I” say here means nothing … the bottom line is that “decertification” would be hilarious because that would scare the absolute bejesus out of these wealthy pricks who think they “know all that” … and I don’t know about you guys, but I personally love when things like that happen !

what does goalie rankings have to with Decertification? as i said in the other thread,Decertification is worst thing owners want because a federal judge would probably force a federal mediation into the mix and the owners will lose big time. players have no other option at this point. since gary,bill and jeremy don’t want to negate with the players behind close doors.

Yeah ? So with all due respect Dadoun, just who here at PHT do you think was the first person to make that connection ? You got it Pontiac, our man Id4joey ! Anyway, this crap is so bloody “transparent” now that it’s almost embarrassing. Bettman is going to have his way here no doubt and we’ll probably see play under way shortly. Nonetheless, the leagues #4 has a great point with eventual decertification. It would mess things up “completely” for Bettman and friend, as the one thing wealthy pigs always dislike is “unpredictability” !
