You keep spewing this crap but it is nonsense……Fehr gains nothing from this lock out continuing since as long as the players continue to be locked out he does not get paid. And since there haven’t been any concessions by the owners, and the players haven’t asked for anything new, other than increased revenue sharing between the owners, it’s pretty simple to see that the ONLY people to gain anything from this lock out are the OWNERS! Some of which, as blom has stated, are saving money as we speak. But I also have to argue a little with blom as well because this isn’t a US/Canada ownership thing as you say because Calgary owner, Murray Edwards, has been up to his eyes with this thing from the beginning……

Stakex – No question that you know the game friend and how it works, etc … but on this one you’re wrong ! October and November have “intentionally” been eliminated from the schedule, no two ways about it. This was made clearly evident by the “apparent” need to finally start discussions during the week of Nov 5 -10. That being said, I suspect that Bettman and crew have since run into some “unexpected” headwinds in the form of a headstrong Fehr ? Nonetheless, I can’t see them not having their way and not salvaging at least a partial season ? My hope at this point is that we get a 60 game “plus” schedule and not some “watered-down” 48 game crap ! Please remember that this impasse is being driven by certain US owners, not Canadian based ownership.

I see the name Bob Batterman on the meeting list and I realize immediately that this meeting will lead to nothing. Batterman’s claim to fame is that he’s the guy who “designed” the NHL’s “winning” lockout in 04-05, like with the nfl the deal won’t get done until you get rid of the lawyers. Why not Bettman and 2 owners meeting with Fehr and 2 players? And even then get rid of Bettman and Fehr in the equation.

Seriously, the level of stupidity among some of the hockey fans I’ve seen is laughable. None of the owners “wanted” a lockout. Sure some teams, in fact quite a few teams, are saving money during the lockout…. but half of them are also losing a ton of money. A lockout is good for no one, other then perhaps Fehr.

I don’t get the players frustration with that at all.

When they sign said contract, they know that it might be adjusted if the CBA changes. All contracts are based on the players share of HRR, and if that share changes so does the contract. It should come as no suprise or shock to the players.

COULD THIS BE IT ?

Despite the fact that most of you here are “full-fare” paying passengers on the express train of “doom and gloom” which is hurtling toward to misery, I’ve chosen to remain on the platform and wait it out until the “train of hope” arrives to the station. And if I’m not mistaken, then I’d swear to you friends that I just heard a faint whistle from an approaching train from just beyond the bend ? Could something now be happening with tonight’s meetings ? Could this finally mark the beginning of the end ? … or better yet, the end of the end ? Guess we’ll see pretty soon eh ? Let’s keep our fingers crossed !

I don’t agree.
Players are continuing to sign European deals everyday. If the puck was dropping on Dec 3 rd, these guys would not be making these deals.

This. It’s not about the money, it’s about principle. If you have a job you expect your employer to honour the contract you two have entered into. I can understand the players’ frustration in this regard.

That being said, I have a feeling the NHL has proposed its best offer and the players will have to take it sooner or later. It’s disappointing they continue to opt for ‘later.’

Both sides are making a mess of this beyond what I had ever thought possible in September.

I say they cancel the season. Teach the players a lesson. That this is a business, not charity for them. If I hear another player cry me a river, Mr. White. I will throw up. Ryan Callahan explain to the group of players the facts of life. Otherwise you will not have a hockey season.
