The last thing a player in his late 30s/early 40s needs is a season away from the game. Most of them have already been off 5 or 6 months. Adding another 10 months without game intensity will end their careers. 240 players did not return to the NHL after the 04-05 lockout. A guy like Iginla could lose up to 14 million over 2 lockouts, and perhaps up to 70 goals off his career stats. Ouch! That leaves a negative dent in a player’s legacy. But what do I know, I’m just annoying to everyone here. Right csprsbums.

IF there is no season, why don’t the veteran players pondering retirement simply take the year off and rest the bones until the next season instead of retiring. I know it’s more of a time issue, but I would think that some of these old guys would welcome a year off to rest and then come back strong and healthy the next season. Brodeur is a great example. Couldn’t he welcome a year to relax and rest the old bones and joints.
