Report: Brooks Laich is returning home after suffering injury in Switzerland

Washington Capitals v New York Rangers - Game Five

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 07: Brooks Laich #21 of the Washington Capitals celebrates after scoring a goal in the second period against Henrik Lundqvist #30 of the New York Rangers to tie up Game Five of the Eastern Conference Semifinals during the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Madison Square Garden on May 7, 2012 in New York City. Brooks Laich’s time in Switzerland is reportedly at an end.

According to the Swiss National League site, Laich was injured in Kloten’s 8-0 win over Lugano. The Geneva Tribune reports Laich hurt his hamstring and he’s headed back to America for treatment.

In 15 games for Kloten, Laich has six goals and eight assists, good for fourth on his team. Hey, it’s just like being back on the Capitals.

Speaking of which, if Laich is hurt seriously and the league and players’ union make progress this week on a new CBA, that would leave Washington missing out on one of their more important players. That’s putting the cart way before the horse though.
