Went to an AHL game the other night. Had a great time and it is good hockey. It was like NHL lite. Much faster and more physical than the ECHL or Hockey East but the top level skill and hitting isn’t quite there. Going back again next week.

Apparently you missed the part of “young kids who need to learn the nuances of the pro game at a higher level.” Explain to me how the majority of American/Canadian hockey players that get drafted go directly to the AHL. Meanwhile the majority of Europeans that come here end up on NHL rosters?

I prefer the ECHL over AHL actually. they have better geographic locations and divisions in my opinion.

It’s wierd the AHL should really be called the East Coast Hockey League, and the ECHL should be called the American Hockey League.

Maybe you shouldn’t guess what the AHL is about and actually go to a game. It’s hard to compare leagues if you haven’t witnessed both eh?

I’m sure the AHL is good in fairness I have never seen an AHL game, but my guess any league in Europe is better. AHL is mostly comprised of young kids who need to learn the nuances of the pro game at a higher level than their used to but play too slow for the NHL level at recognition, goons who can’t skate at an NHL level, over priced NHL veterans where teams stash them to get under the cap, and veterans who can’t play anymore.

God bless the AHL and everything they represent. Theirs is a “quality” enterprise based on hard work, honesty and decency. Regardless of whenever the NHL resolves it’s problems, I wish nothing but the “best” for this league always !
