ATTENTION FRIENDS !!!

Please note that someone has now begun posting here under the erroneous names of “blomfelb” and “Ib4joey” ! Of course these names are fake and they should in no way be confused with either “yours truly” or blomfeld. blomfeld already has a good handle on who’s behind this little caper. But for good measure, he has also asked his old friend “Stransky” to take a look into this (ie: Stransky is a physicist and an expert in forensic causation analysis) and he’s assured blomfeld that he’ll have the name of this imposter within 48 hours, with a margin for error of “plus or minus” 2.5 hours. Once this imposter has been identified, then suffice it to say that he/she will be “dealt with” quickly and ruthlessly.

Id4joey - Thank you friend. I tried being negative like everyone else here by throwing in the towel on the season and all. But after 72 hours, I realized that "negativity" just isn't for me ! And neither is this business of insulting fellow commenters, like the filthy vermin "mudslinger & daburghdabest" are apt to do. The bottom line Joey is that I think we were both right from day one. There will be a season and it will start in all likelihood by early December, just as you had originally postulated ! :)

The NHLPA has to be the dumbest Labour group in all of sports. First they hire the guy that killed baseball America's past time (By the way NFL thanks this guy, they are the top dog because of him). Then they watch two major sport's strikes before them which resulted in players giving back to 50/50 splits, in return got both leagues to look into player safety more. The NHL needs a true 50/50 split to make the league work. The only way i can see both groups win is make it a 10 year deal like NFL did. Work first three years down to 50/50 split giving players what they want. In return the owners get to amnesty on play contract per year during first three years. (except contracts signed this summer). That makes it win win for both parties, and ultimately a win for fans with 10years of labour peace.

The owners are asking players to take pay cuts after a few years of record revenues. It seems obvious that something is wrong when there have been three lockouts in less than twenty years and nothing really changes. The owners and the commish have seemed unwilling to consider other long term fixes-greater revenue sharing, contraction and franchise relocation-to go along with salary rollbacks.

BTW, Gary makes about $8 million a year now without ever risking his life or health on the ice like the players who actually sell tickets do. How many years does the average American have to work to make as much as the guy who has been the one constant in the last three NHL work stoppages?

This PR crap from the players about wanting to keep "negotiating" needs to stop.

When all you want to do is meet with the other side and keep repeating the same demands over and over again... you're not negotiating. Look at last week. The players were saying for weeks that they were the ones wanting to talk and blah blah blah. Once they finally met with the owners, what did they actually end up giving in on? Nothing at all. That just proves they really don't want to talk, they want to demand.

So don't blame the owners for not wanting to talk. Idiot fans with only half a brain see an article like this and say "Gee, if only the owenrs wanted to talk". However talking between the two sides is only a good idea if one side is ready to change its position. If no one is willing to budge, its not a good for both sides to get together... because you just end up with a short, hostile meeting like we saw at the end of last week.

Well this isn't a strike, its a lockout... which is pretty much the reverse of a strike. Still though, the players will not and should not be paid in full for the season. Both sides are to blame for the lockout, and both sides should pay.

So true, and going to your last point let me give a touch of perspective:

An NHL player with a standard entry level deal ($800k) will make as much money in one year as an average American makes ($46,326) in 17 years. So remember that next time any of you actually think about feeling sorry for any of the players. You're not watching hockey because guys who make AT LEAST more money in one year then most people make in 20 years don't want to take a 13% pay cut.

Of course with Fehr at the helm, I don't see the players giving in any time soon.

BETTMAN ROCKS !

Only three days ago, I had resigned myself to the fact that "all" was lost and that it was time for me to board the "doom and gloom" train with everybody else. Well I did board that train friends and to be quite frank with you, it made me sick to my stomach ! Now my original thesis calling for a "magical" breakthrough during the week of Nov 5-10 "plus or minus" 3 x days did prove to be invalid, as did my hope for common sense to prevail. Well tonight friends, I've just come to the realization that perhaps "all" isn't lost after all and that we're now possibly closer than ever to a conclusion of this madness ? My original postulation was made two months ago on September 16th, only 24 hours after the lockout began. So just like a battleship upon entering an engagement, who's opening salvo lands "close" from a distant range, who's to say that I didn't have these bastards pegged from day one, albeit off by a few days ? My thinking during the past 24 hours or so, is that the excellent commenter called "Id4joey" may have had this right all along, by calling for an agreement to be reached by the US Thanksgiving and play to then commence by the start of December ? It makes sense when you think about it, no two ways about that ... and something is definitely afoot here, don't you agree ? :)

GO BETTMAN !!

GO "END OF LOCKOUT" !!!!
