Maybe you should figure out what you are talking about before posting. Phillips has been in the league since 1997, has played over 1000 games and is a former first overall draft pick. He is anything but a kid, let alone a f@cking one (such a grown-up use of language by the way).

I feel embarassed to be a fan of this league.. I have shelved all my NHL clothing… I am soo sick of looking at listening to and looking at Don Fehr, Steve Fehr, Bill Daly, Gary Bettman act like little school b itches..

And I am also disgusted with how all the players whine about that there is nothing in this deal for them?

Like how about playing for millions a year to play hockey? Is that not enough of an incentive???

I am actually hoping now that the NHL cancels the whole season so the Owners and Players suffer, and then when a guy misses a whole season maybe even two? and then the league has to contract 6 teams so the players can then be out of jobs and see how great it was that they stood up for all there union brothers!

Philips went through it too. He’s been in the league for well over a decade and is (apparently) willing to sacrifice one or more of what could be his last seasons.

Recchi went through the last lockout didn’t he? Seems a little better informed on how dragging this out will affect the players than Mr. Philips.

The vast majority of these players never went to college. Is there an easier group to get to follow you to their own demise than hockey players? Fehr has these guys completely brainwashed.

This deal is all about protecting the top 20% of the players. Not the 80% who only play 3-5 years in the NHL.

Example
You can make $1.7m/year over 3 years (total=$5.1m)
-or-
You can make $2.0m over 2 years if you stand firm on the ‘make whole’ provision (total=$4.0m)

Recchi is right! The deals are not going to get better. What’s the big deal about being 28 until you are ufa anyways? Most players don’t come into the nhl until they are young 20′s anyways.

Recchi is simply stateing the facts. Phillips is trying to keep player moral up, and sounds more concerned with winning, then reality.

Thats an issue right there. These negotiations seem more about whos winning, and who can win the PR battle… but at the end of the day they should be about the reality of the situation. That reality is that it only gets worse for the players from this point out, which is what Recchi was saying.

The players need to get their head out of Fehr’s ass and look at this, not from the standpoint of trying to win, but from a realistic standpoint.
