If there’s a breakthrough or one side (or both sides) decides that the remaining gap isn’t worth blowing another deadline over (once we get closer to the deadline), things might move quickly. There might be a point in these talks where the majority of fans go from assuming that all is lost to watching an announcement about a newly finalized CBA in a short amount of time.

I’m not saying that there will definitely be a 2012-13 campaign, but at the same time I do think that it’s too early to give up hope.

Every fan should already know why there hasn’t been a mediator in recent months and its the same reason why they won’t get one in the future.

Owners are playing hardball and they don’t want mediator to come in and ruin it. I mind players are already giving up back to 50/50 and still owners want all their contracts rights reduced. What kind of mediator would guarantee them results even close to that, while still keeping NHLPA happy?

This good be a good sign. They both know they need something to get this thing moving along. Of course you still have to agree to deal in good faith, and give as much as get, which may be difficult for Daly to do. Hopefully it’s something they seriously consider.

Hmmm… Coupla weeks back both sides consulted mediators, then had this stretch of meetings. Could be the consultants pointed out a decided lack of good faith, which now appears to be “resolved”

Of course the NHL doesn’t want a mediator. Mediator would come in and see that the players are doing all the giving and getting nothing in return.
