somekat that’s the biggest bunch of crap I’ve heard. Weber was an offer, not a contract…all the contracts to players like Hartnell, Simmonds…Philly actually signed about as many as anyone. Now Snider doesn’t want to honor those but in return is saying it’s out of his hands??? No. He carries clout, as a long standing owner, and can turn this lockout around with a word. He is a snake, a liar, and a greedy pig.

He can’t do a thing about it because he’s one of the rich owners who circumvented the rules of the CBA to hurt the small market teams. Can you say front loaded contract to Weber? And then of course there is the case of Parise and Suter.

Ohhh you prefer every team for themselves by in large, ala baseball.
You see a long time ago Al Davis and the NFL figured out that the league as a whole will be better off if they all shared together.
But look how that turned out

And my point is Snider can do “a thing about it” he just isn’t, that’s probably smart of him, to do nothing, but saying he can’t, is an outright lie and more PR garbage.

I would agree with you on your logic about the “have” teams, except for the fact that this entire lockout has been illogical. Bettman and the owners perpetrated this situation in protest of their own system. That fifty-seven percent was completely irrelevant to the league when they were forcing the players union to miss an entire years pay, on top of taking a twenty-four percent pay cut and a hard salary cap. It only became an issue when revenues reached record levels last season, then suddenly the deal Bettman and the owners forced down the players throats was completely unfair to them. But I believe you’re the clown if you think Snider is doing everything in his power to end this ordeal, and that he’s just being held prisoner by the lower-tier owners. There is no way he is fighting against the make whole clause, changing free agency requirements, and a more even split of HRR just so he can get back to his Flyers. Snider makes unbelievable amounts of money from Comcast and numerous other investments. He doesn’t need the revenue created by the Flyers. Sure, all the owners want the NHL back, but not more than they want a revamped system that benefits them more than the players. And it’s beyond naive to think that he is getting pushed around by the demands of the sunbelt owners. Especially since he is one of power players that Bettman answers to.

Like was said above, if you think Snider wouldn’t be playing right now if it was in his power, you are a clown. The “have” teams, have 0 reason to not want to be playing hockey. THEY ARE MAKING MONEY!!!! It’s the teams losing money and breaking even that want changes

Snider is one of, if not the, most player friendly owners in the league. The Flyers go above and beyond with guys who have played there, even guys who weren’t there very long. That’s why the Flyers are always rumored for every FA, because everyone wants to play for the Flyers. Owners are supposed to do what they can to get the players they want, that’s what the players, and the fans want. He does that, so there is something wrong with it? Also, the Flyers never blueprinted any of these types of deals. But if other teams are doing it, you do it, or get left behind. Snider would be negligent to not do it on principal.

If you think Snider is what is wrong with the league, I pray you don’t agree with anything the players want. Because if you side with the players, and don’t like Snider, you may want to get a test done for your metal facalties. Getting past that 12 year old mind MAY be impossible

Snider is probably the biggest snake in the NHL ownership. It was HIS team that signed most of those high dollar 6 year contracts right before the CBA expired, and it’s him again that has Bettman in his pocket and doesn’t want to honor those contracts now. The man is a greedy pig. When he says he’s disappointed that no more honest than his intention to honor his team’s contract. He is EXACTLY what is WRONG with the NHL.

I do not believe for one second that Snider has no sway in this situation. What would he have to gain by telling the media the truth? If he tells the fans that all he wants is hockey then he doesn’t look like a bad guy, his hands are clean. I appreciate all that Snider has done for hockey in Philadelphia, the endless resources he provides his front office, but you can’t tell me he has no clout in those owner meetings. The dude has enough money to bring all the struggling franchises into the black. However that doesn’t mean he’s not out to save a few bucks in this new cba. I wish I could believe all Ed Snider wants is what we all want, but that’s not reality. He wants union concessions just like Bettman and the other big wigs.

Delaware North, as the concessions service provider for most of the teams in the league, has a vested interest in reducing the player’s share of revenues, which would allow them to do things like launder millions in dirty money through beer stands.

All four teams you mention – Flyers, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Rangers – would be playing hockey tomorrow if it was solely up to them. It is the ‘have not’ franchises (and Boston) that vastly outnumber the ‘haves’ that is holding the rest of the league, labor talks and the start of the season hostage.

i am a flyers season ticket holder and have been since the lindros era and final yrs of the spectrum. snider is lying. a small group of wealthy, powerful owners is calling the shots — flyers, red wings, maple leafs, rangers, etc. they tell bettman what to do. it is not the other way around and to suggest as much is laughable and insults everyone’s intelligence. the owners just don’t want the heat and to be held accountable.

The amnesty stuff sure will be interesting, will it be limited to 1 contract per team? Multiple? The top teams in terms of Revenue sharing are going to be making some interesting moves to get salary down over the next few years, should be fun.

The removal of Bryzgalov and his hideous contract from the Flyer’s books, would be a “perfect” reason for Snider to have wanted this delay … among other things of course. Nonetheless, I still can’t see these guys like Bryz, Kovi and Ovi staying on in the KHL. I remain convinced that they’ll all be scrambling back here the “second” a deal is announced !
