Flyeredup202 you give Philly fans a horrible name, as if they didn’t already have one. Sid didn’t admit to doing anything, nor DID he do anything – tape shows that nothing happened, and there was nothing that happened on the ice that hurt Giroux’s play. You need to get your facts straight.

Giroux said those things because he is a spoiled, crying little brat. Sid said what he said in return because he’s a hockey player. Giroux needs to grow up, as do you.

Uh. There’s maybe 12 million members of the Communist Party remaining. That’d be out of like 110 million. Russia is big. Even without the Republics. It is also not communist. Technically, never was. It was Socialist. USSR = Union of the Soviet SOCIALIST Republics, right?

I’ve always hated Ovechkin – until I saw him playing w/ Dynamo Moskva. He’s SO different over there – no grandstanding – posturing, or self-importance. He’s not the captain – a position I don’t think he’s really comfortable with – just a hard-working player, and he goofs around like a kid. Unrecognizable. I speak a little Russian & have watched most of the games I could on Russian stations with Russian commentators – who are hilarious. (ESPN annoyed me so much by continuously mis-pronouncing “Dynamo” as “DIEnamo” with the crowds loudly chanting “DEEnamo” throughout every game they covered – 3 teams with this name – as well as so many other errors that could have been fixed had they thought to hire a high school student, I abandoned ESPN after 15 minutes.)
All that to say, I expect they’ll all come back, but it’s been interesting to see how happy the Russian players are to be playing at home. Chara will be glad to come home – his family’s still in Boston!

Get your facts straight Flyeredup. First of all, Sid never “admitted” to anything. He said he cared more about actually winning faceoffs and if he happened to catch his wrist he’s not sorry. And nor should he be with all the bile coming from your neck of the woods about him. Second of all, G’s wrist problems go back years. Thirdly, How’d your boys do in the last 2 playoff series against the Pens before last season? That’s what I thought.

Sid has a ring. Come to think of it….so do Richards and Carter! Ooooooohhhhhh too soon?

I hope so, at least they are both centers, which makes sense to compare them. Never understood why the league tried to compare a C and a LW in the first place and a lot of fans bought into it. You only can compare same position players. I’m a LW and have nothing in common with a C. To be honest I hate most centers especially when they try breaking out of our zone and they’re standing like 2 feet away from you. Damn they’re annoying!

Worst case scenario Ovechkin, Kovalchuk and anyone else that want’s to stay in the KHL might have to sit out remainder of the season to honor the transfer agreement, which expires 06/30/2013. The KHL obviously wouldn’t renew the agreement if they were going to be able to keep those types of stars in their home league.

Sid needs to save face with G, G owned him in the playoffs and then made him his personal
B!tch in the series. Afterwards called Sid out for the slashs on the wrists and that he had two broken wrists because of it. Sid admits it, and then says hes not sorry? Thats a rivialry in every sense of the word. Blood has always been bad between Pit and Philly, this has only added to it. I hate Sid with a passion but when healthy and playing his game he is one of the most talanted players in the NHL and the World. Russian players have shown to be loaners who have not team attitude and it shows. Ovi? Kovi? Zerdev?(one of the best open ice skaters in the game just has no teamwork attitude) Bottom line Crosby and G know how to make the players around them better….. which equates to wins and great hockey to watch…..

First, the players are here for the money, simple as that. Ovie even came out and said “if the new CBA slashes players contracts” then he would have to asses which is better for him. Not only can you not blame him, but you can blame Gary Bettman entirely. Any person in this world is going to move to the company (team) that values them the most. It’s capitalism.

Second, if the players contracts were decreased(they won’t), Brooks Laich will be going overseas and so will all of the other talented players in the league. If an overseas league can offer them better compensation, they’re all going, your team will be completely different. There would be a whole new established standard of hockey, most likely a less talented AHL.

Third, they will get this done. Although it has already take two plus months too long, Bettman and the owners understand that if these players leave the new CBA is pointless because the fan base WILL abandon them and the league will become more irrelevant than it has ever been or dreamt of being.

I’m a huge hockey fan and certainly don’t want any of the NHL stars staying overseas, that would spell disaster for the League. At the same time, I’m so angry at Gary Bettman and the owners for being stupid enough to let the league take another hit like this (over a simple CBA that only yields money for both parties when they are actually working) that I almost wish they’d all stay over there for a year just to punish Bettman for taking so long to get this done. All players move over for a year and really scare these owners out of being so lazy and dumb with something as serious as this again.

Being the diehard Capitals fan that i am, I would have this to say to Mr. Ovechkin:

This is up to you, Alex. First of all, consider this: you are under contract with the Washington Capitals. Dishonoring your contract – going back on your word – would make you quite the hypocrite considering how outspoken you were against the owners’ attempts to roll back player salaries. Were you not, just a moment ago, accusing THEM of going back on THEIR word? I caution that you will come off looking very badly right out of the gate.

Second, should you actually choose to stay… don’t even think of ever coming back to Washington. You will have alienated this fan base that has, over the last 7-8 years, accepted you, loved you, flocked to you, rooted for you to succeed, and staunchly defended you – as a player and also your Russian heritage. Turn your back on us, and we turn our back on you.

Third, don’t think that we can’t just move right along without you… Brooks Laich will make a world-class Captain. Do I need to go on?

getting Mackinnon wouldn’t be a terrible parting gift seeing as it would only be a few months of bad hockey. Just looking at it if Kovi left. Devils would be a top 3 contender come draft day and Mackinnon would put them back in the playoff search in two years… With him and Larsson and other young core players, they could rebuild for a long time…

Of course the KHL wants to keep its Russian stars in Russia, thats pretty much why they created the league in the first place and have no real transfer agreement.

With Parise leaving for MN, losing Kovalchuk would be tough for the Devils – at least from a gameplay standpoint. From a financial standpoint, I could see Lou doing cartwheels and laughing maniacally if Kovy stays overseas.

The last 2 years Ovie’s been just a notch above replacement, and Sid hasn’t played much. I think that rivalry (if it ever really existed in the first place) is spoken for.

I’d think Pens fans would be more interested in the budding Giroux-Sid rivalry anyway.

As a Wild fan I easily disagree with you.

I want the best players in the NHL and Ovie is a great talent, along with Kovi.

If they choose to stay, you will see a huge following of young Russian players staying at home and not going to Canada (CHL) and then America (NHL).

This would be terrible for North American hockey.
